Would be cool if someone made another clan rankings thread. Edge made one before, and Semice made one a while ago or something similar to it. We could use another clan ranking thread but more updated and holistic compared to past ones. The plan is to create clan rankings from best clans to a certain cutoff, and to promote these findings for more to see.

If someone does decide to do this try to look from a holistic perspective, and consider not just skilled players but activity, ladders, real-time games, social, and other angles. Try to get leaders to weigh in on their own clan to help create more holistic results, because the leaders have info and insight that outsiders obviously don't have. Leaders will obviously be biased at times, but it is up to the person conducting the research to discern that.

This could be fun and if done in a more formal way can be a good way to promote clans and get their name out there. Hard work would then be rewarded, because it is mostly the ambitious clans that have the most success.

And I would absolutely be willing to contribute if anyone likes the idea, thanks.

Edit: Also I'm aware that some may think this is a bad idea because it is hard to be truly objective, and some people in certain clans may get upset if their clan isn't listed higher than others, but we are not claiming this list will be 100% perfect anyway, so let's be mature about this if it does happen.

Trouble is defining what items should be ranked.

CL - of course
Ladders - for sure (but how?)
MDL?
Other custom leagues (AWP? Promo League?)

Within all those items that are chosen to be used, how do you rank? Avg rating? Only top X amount in a given format? Activity bonuses? How far back on those items do you aggregate from?

Maybe Math Wolf or another smart person could post a nice formula for that.

Basically I support this %100, as long as someone puts in the effort and does it well.

The simplest answer to that question would be to use currently ranked on the ladder with that clan tag. As for the mathematical scoring, I'm no expert on such things but I would suggest considering a few different metrics--

1) Number of players from the clan, currently ranked, divided by clan's total number of players
2) Total rating points by clan players, divided by number of players ranked

This at least would give some kind of snapshot of a clan's current standings on a ladder

I personally liked it the way Edge did. Although methodology was slightly flawed, it was a realistic and consistent one, and by far the best of what we seen to this day. I would love to see that one getting an update. Good luck coming up with aggregating the CL and ladder results, otherwise.

So if a clan has #1 team on a ladder for months, 1 person goes on vacation the day you are doing aggregation, that isn't counted? That seems bad to me. I feel like if you are going to consider ladders, you need to account for 3-6 months of activity there (which I realize is cumbersome for someone to pull, unless there is an automated way).

Take 3v3 ladder for example. We had #1 team for a while. We stopped playing and joined with a new/different team. We are only a half dozen games in with the #2 rating (but not ranked yet). So we are not counted at all? That seems fishy to me. I would understand overlooking previous team for us (as we happen to have taken a break for a while). But what about another team from another clan that could have been ranked for a while, dropped off last week to grab a different player? They are not counted?

I liked my method, too. That gave at least a roundabout ok judgement of each player in the clans and since i counted in the top 10 players of all clans to sum up the end results i think u automatically ended up with a decent judgement.

The only thing i would add to it, would be to take the perspectives of other people into consideration to judge if this or that player deserves a top rating or not and maybe someone could reach out to the clans to find their opinion on certain players in their clans, but that's highly objective as well. Through it might be worth a shot, but the most important thing to add would be a group of people to discuss who deserves the top tier or top 2 tier rating.

I'm not entirely familiar, but if people agree that Edge's method is good, then I want to see that used.
