I have noticed on occasion that the e-mail notifications are 30 min to a hour behind the last game state change when its my turn. Does anyone know how the e-mail notification works? Is the server set to send notifications out on pre-set intervals or after a certain amount of time has gone by after turn change or what?

Chances are, the delay in letting you know that it's your turn is based on your personal settings. Go to "Settings" at the top of this page and look for the area where you can change notifications. You can have it send you an e-mail at different time intervals after your turn has begun, including 30 minutes.

I have also noticed on occasional delay in e-mail notifications, but those seem fairly rare compared to how many I get exactly when it's supposed to send.

The issue was purely in my settings, it was set to 30 min. Corrected now.
