Some guys organize free membership tournaments. Join one and win to get your membership. But those are rare, and I don't know of any other possibilities.

yeah, if ten people you invited to warlight buy a membership, you get a membership. i think its ten people, it might be fewer than that.

Frankly I was surprised at Lyjus getting a free membership out of that as it didn't seem like that significant a bug to me. Would make me worry about many non-members filing spurious bug reports in the hopes of getting a free membership as well.

Getting the free membership seems very difficult because you have to actually get ten other people to buy one

The fact that anyone would need a free membership just seems pathetic. This is an extremely cheap game by today's standards. People who ask for a membership make me sad, maybe don't go to Starbucks or Duncan Donuts every single day this week.

Dazed, while I mostly agree with you, I do think you are missing an important point. The game is $30, which is pretty cheap. However, not all players are living in the US. For example, I am living in China, and while 200rmb ($30) isn't a terribly huge sum, it goes a lot farther here. I am sure there are plenty of players who would love a membership, but just can't justify the expense.
That being said, I am so glad I became a member! For me, the best part about it is being able to create games with a good luck percentage, but there are other advantages too, such as the ladders or the ability to create big games and tourneys.

Haha mate, it's 30 DOLLARS. That's what, 15-20 Pounds? As you seem to be English, you must surely spend that much in the pub on a Tuesday night.

There's nothing stopping you from saving up money (make monthly payments to your piggy bank :p ), then when you've saved up $30 you buy the membership. Unlike most other games out there, you can even play while you're in the process of saving up!

Monthly payments?
What are they going to be... $1 a month? That's the only way you could do it and make it reasonable. After all, the $30 is a one-time fee, not an annual cost so monthly payments is just a ridiculous concept.
Hell, if Kurtis paid $2 a month he'd have more than a full membership.

Ow wait, I think I misunderstood; I thought he wanted a payment plan so he wouldn't need to pay up all at once. On reading it again, yes, it does sound like he wants to pay each and every single month instead of getting a lifetime membership.
Anyway, the idea still works:
- Every month, save up some amount you think fair.
- If the site goes away before you reach $30, keep the money.
- If, when you hit $30, you still enjoy the game and keep playing it, transfer the money.
That way you're sure you won't pay for a lifetime membership which ends right away (if Fizzer would decide to kill the site) or hell, it even protects you from spending money on something you got bored with far sooner than you expected.
