Nothing new, but feel like saying this today. Not everyone can take turns every day, that's cool. Some turns ya gots to think about a while - thinking is good! But if yer losing, SHITE OR GET OFF THE POOPER, YO.
Ladder squatting is lame. And boring. And very very lame.

If you're one of the people's whose move rate doesn't naturally slow down when you're losing, you're in the minority. People don't do it on purpose in general, it's just a result of the demoralization leading to lack of interest in the game.

Slowing is natural. Losing bites the weenie. Lack of interest means after 3 days you're booted. Waiting three days and taking half a turn is not lack of interest, it is squatting.
Squatting is lame.

I think what Devil was pointing out is that in a game you are not doing so well in, it's natural to procrastinate. Personally, if I am kicking the other player around, I am much more likely to be enthusiastic, and thus take my turns much more quickly.
I really try to avoid this behavior, as I know it's annoying. I don't do it on purpose, it just happens.

I don't think the good Mr. Devilnis' words needed clarification, but yes, again I agree slowing is an au naturale reaction to losing. A mourning period if you will.
But really TJ, are you going to make me say this again? Surely you'll agree there's a point when one's adversary has clearly lost, and is avoiding surrendering with half turns every three days and that kind of baloney fart schitck, and they're doing it only to hold their ladder position, and where's the sport in that? It's beyond procrastination, it is squatting, and it's boring and lame.
Anyways it is is funny to hear you arguing this, cuz you are a fast player if I recollect correctly.

Kudos to the sheriff for not pointing the finger directly, but I think he might be referring to me.
Sorry for dragging out our game for a while. Seeing as you already play 5 games at a time and thus have no way of speeding things up on your end any more, I think you have the right to complain (unlike others, who only play 2 games at a time and yet moan about their opponents dragging things out). In a few hours my losses will have expired, after that my curiosity will be satisfied and I shall surrender and sink back into oblivion :-)

To limit such dastardly and perfidious manipulation of the ladder system for the future, there should be a change in how the auto-boot works.
As it is now, you can wait 2 days 23hrs, make your move, wait another 2days 23hrs, make the next move and so forth.
What it should be like is: The first player to submit his turn gets the normal 3 days boot time. The second player who is running late only gets 24hrs. This would force the player who is behind in turns to play TWO consecutive turns instead of only one. After the 2nd turn played, it would then be the other way round: the second player would have gained another 3 days boot time, while now the first player would be the one being late.
Play two turns in a row = 3 days boot time, play only one turn = 24hrs.
Doesn't work for the 2v2 ladder though, I suppose.

You mean people behaving like [this]( http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer.aspx?GameID=2460758) ?
Watch the time it takes him to make his moves dropping from <1 hour to almost boot-time...

If you find the time to play one turn, you can also play two turns in a row. Coming from me that might sound hipocritical right now, but (other than these last couple of days on the ladder) I consider it a matter of courtesy to play the 2nd turn right after the 1st one.
Sure you can argue you have to thouroghly reevalute your strategy after each and every turn and ponder all possible combinations and variations of your next move for the next 3 days to come to the optimal conclusion for your evil plot for world domination, but I dare say that doesn't hold true for a map size as small as medium earth, a map we all have played hundreds of times before. Real-time games are done with identical settings and 5 minutes turn limit, so don't tell me you need 864 times longer than the average Joe :-)
The reason we have 3 days boot time is not because the turns are so complex (after all, this is not multi-attack Big USA with 3000 territories ...) but to allow those who can - for real life reasons - only play every 2nd or 3rd day to participate in the ladder. Name me one these players who consistenly only can play for 5 minutes every 3 days and cannot for the life of it play 10 minutes instead, and I shall stand corrected.

Haha Diabolicus, you are right: mine are the rantings of a 5-at-a-time addict. So in my book, a shorter boot scheme such as you presented, would definitely up the fun and lower the dastardly perfidiousness.
Belated congrats on yer ladder climb btw, don't sink!
But um, do finish our &%$#!@ game. :P
Clavicus, sorry to disappoint: though I'm sure we can agree squatting is a crime on par with child molesting, I was raised too polite to do any public shaming. I do, however, own a spanking machine, for anyone that wants to punish themselves.

Oh, I am in total agreeanceness with you, bud. When I have clearly LOST a game, I surrender. People who run around with base income and/or make 1 turn every 3 days annoy me too. But I sometimes don't play a game where I am losing (as opposed to clearly lost) until 1 day, 12 hours.
