Well it was just an over simplified analogy to how a gene like predisposition to suicide could continue.

What I was trying to get at though rather clumsily. Was that a person with this particular gene doesn't have the same capacity for fear of death. Combined with the selfish-gene. Could produce situations where suicidal behavior is indeed a benefit in an evolutionary sense. Probably a bad analogy to use.

Particularly in the last article they talk about a spectrum of suicidal behaviors. Albeit the research is still early on to draw conclusions.

Like I said I am not a psychiatrist so my conclusions are merely opinion.

The thing to consider especially with genetics is that genes tend to overlap in function. This is why gene switch research is still in its infancy because when you switch a gene off for a specific trait it could cause other traits to become unbalanced as well.

How about we go back, say, 30 years, all the Children in America dealt with bullying much better, yes there was still a rouge suicide or mass killing from some depressed psycho, and those people were NOT memorialized, given candle light Vigils, or any of that, they were most likely post mortem diagnosed as clinically depressed, or have some other form of mental problem. Nowadays, kids CUT THEMSELVES, CUT THEMSELVES, simply because they feel "misunderstood, hurt, not getting enough attention, or not cool" This isnt the generation of America past, this is a generation of wusses and pre-maddonas. I cant take all the BS. These kids throw their lives away like trash because some jackass called them a name on the internet, heres some god damn advice, LOG OUT!. dont jump off a god damn watertower because you feel bad, and if you feel like suicide is the only way out, think, think about someone who loves you, there is at least one, maybe you know them, maybe they are a secret admirer. Now imagine the pain they would feel if you KILLED YOURSELF. imagine it, imagine, your mother, father, siblings, family, all feeling that emptiness of having lost a loved one. All because your SELFISH, selfish, taking your life, whether you have a religion or not. Life is the greatest gift, your here, your special, you matter. dont throw away your existence on this earth for your petty feelings. Also take into account that if you do believe in a higher power ( I myself am catholic), that ALL religions, literally ALL religions believe that taking ones own life is the ultimate sin and damns you for eternity, hell, whatever you may call it, taking your own life is THE WORST THING YOU CAN DO. The irony of all this is that lawlz said that he wouldn't check any of these posts, all of which are trying to help him (or complain about him)

Also, totally agree with Leo's post. There is absolutely no reason to kill yourself, especially for something as little as a forum full of people you never seen in your life.

Leo I think you need to understand that a lot of these issues you are talking about have been around for a long long time its not just the issue of this most recent generation.

It might be more noticeable these days because of the communication technology that we have today vs 20 or 30 years ago. So people are more comfortable sharing their feelings than they were 20 or 30 years ago.

Regardless, this avenue of discussion is a tangent on the main point of this thread.

That's because the main point of this thread is "pay attention to lawlz".

Any life that could be saved by the warlight forum is not worth saving.

As I have not adequately researched them, I cannot come to an opinion on them.

I am pretty sure i took the time to help him out recently and tutor him a bit on gameplay. Not sure why he said nobody has been nice to him

So, you want me to come to an opinion an a subject without adequately knowing what Im talking about. Alright, the opinion I have come to is that you are only paying attention to tangents and not my main point, and the points you ARE talking about require more research to come to a conclusive statement, though there seems to be a real correlation. Gentleman, I get your point now about fear of death. But you can be suidical while still being fearful of death and unable to actually kill yourself. So maybe people who actually manage to kill themselves would, in other conditions, be the ones who would risk or sacrifice their life for something else, because they are genetically unafraid to die.

But "suicidal disposition" isn't interchangeable with "unafraid of death".

I can't read any of those papers since you have to pay for them or something.

@chris- no it's the same person… he has a couple different lawlz accts. a couple people in our survivor tribe also helped him out, guess he also forgot about those guys. i offered to help him too, and he ignored me. he could use some self-awareness.

it's good for him that he's quit WL. he probably had too much time on his hands, fell down the rabbit hole and forgot what's important in life. happens to all of us. hopefully he feels better.

I get what your saying and there are other genes to that probably overlap. Like with most things its probably not just one thing in particular but likely a combination of factors. And they have not pinpointed specifically what gene or genes are likely responsible. There just happens to be an incredibly strong correlation with certain genes and suicide as well as familial ancestry and suicide. So causation as not been completely established at this point.

An interesting question to ponder could the genes responsible for pathological altruism by related or similar to the genes for suicide?

they seem to be on two ends of the same scale in my opinion.

On the subject itself, I started from the first page, and these seem to be directly targeted at him, after starting he wouldn't read the messages. I know he's still active in games, but I see no response on here, so I have no clue if he is or not.
