Should the entry level for Real Time ladders be lowered?



not dramatically so but I reckon most higher level players are accustomed to playing more multi-day games interspersed with real-time games. Leaving a smaller pool of players to participate at any given time in the real-time ladders.

Given the risk of auto boot one could surmise that it would be prohibitive to wait in the ladder lobby for an eligible player
thus probably lowering the participation in non-peak hours.

would level 40 be to low?

there is already much debate whether non-members should even be allowed to play in ladders. so i guess its fine for now.

I feel like the 1v1 should be lowered because it should be a more accurate representation of the rankings of active Warlight players, not just those that have been around that long. The RT Ladder should maybe also be lowered, because it's often kinda empty or only full of top-tier players, meaning it's pretty useless for people like me to play in it, because I rarely play people near my level. You could lower those, and then keep the 2v2 and Seasonal high, or even raise them a bit, to keep them more exclusive for members. Also.....I'd like to see the Seasonal ladder be member-only.

i think it should be lowered. The more players the merrier

i think the RT-Ladder just needs a better advertisment, many people haven't even realised it exists

Good point Timinator I see a lot of people not participating that participate more frequently in the other ladders although I can't be sure whether or not this is related to advertisement or the templates in circulation I know some people are holding back because of the templates.

@Pulsey probably right but then I couldn't play :P

although I think Fizzer probably gets more revenue from ads than memberships at this point so expanding the ladders probably would help him generate more ad revenue.

My guess would be that it needs to appear on the Dashboard.

(and you can sometimes beat people above your level, though I'm fairly sure if I was my internet would decide to cut out again)

Timi/Cheery are right. It isn't widely known...putting on Dashboard would help a lot.

As I said before, modifying the templates would help a lot. The problem is that they are all old seasons, which many of the newer players have never played on...that reduces interest. Many of the vets don't like light fog or some other settings, so they are holding off ladder for that reason.

So, I'm not sure a level change is the answer. I think you could expand the pool a lot without doing that.

Just make a one-time-popup as for the AI-Challenge

I think that 1. Ladders should be for members only. Members deserve to have somethings exclusive to themselves. 2. The level should be dropped to some degree for more players and other reasons.

Edit: Change some of the seasons but not all of them.

Your right cro I think that members should get certain perks. However, limiting the ladders to member only would limit the quality of players you are facing. Its a bit of a two edged sword really. It also diminishes the achievement of reaching the number 1 on any ladder.

Do you want to be the number 1 of members or the number 1 warlight player?

IMO, you cannot be #1 warlight player and not be a member. Sure you can maybe get to #1 on ladder, but no way are you the best player in warlight and not a member. If you were that good, you'd buy a membership and be using the additional features already.

Just because you don't pay doesn't mean you can't be the best. Many players with massive ratings on Chess.com don't go for premium.

Honestly, I would buy a membership if I could but it is just not feasible at this time. I have always planned to but I can take solace in the fact that fizzer does indeed get payed indirectly by me simply playing his game with frequency via adds. I even click on the darn things!!!.

However to say you CANT and not me specifically but anyone really CANT be the best player in warlight simply by not being a member seems a bit illogical and more emotionally driven.

This game lasted as long as it did because of members which helped get warlight to the place it is now. I think that should not go unnoticed. However like I said before do you just want to be the best of the members? or do you want to be best of the entire warlight community? in reference to attaining a top ladder position. Certainly I would say it would be a hollow victory indeed to exclude other players.

Maybe certain ladders should be limited to members only that seems fair I wouldn't have a problem with the seasonal ladder or the 2v2 ladder becoming members only.

The real time ladder needs more than just member play to be properly functional as far as functionality is concerned. Honestly who wants to wait 30-40 minutes for a match?

I'm not saying it is impossible. I just think if you are someone who has not gotten a membership, created tournaments, toyed with different settings, and done all those other things...how do you know you are the best? The 1v1 ladder is not a measure of the best player in warlight IMO. If your life depended on one person winning one game (regardless of format), who would you pick?

The chances of that person being someone who simply unlocked the ladder for free are remote IMO. Not impossible, but VERY unlikely. That is all I am saying.

I could agree with that. I just don't deal with absolutes. I mean for all I know a unicorn could shoot out of my ass tommorow =P
