When I first started this game, and got hooked... I was surprised to find no one was creating consistent public tournaments. By that, I mean it's kind of whatever everyone wants to do and you get things like 3v3 Big USA Tournaments that make absolutely no sense.

That's why today I have purchased a membership to this game, for the sole purpose of hosting a consistent Strategic 1v1 Tournament. I hope to make it as competitive of a tournament as I can, and I've decided to start small with 128 players and open to everyone, but will consider making it bigger and putting in harsher requirements in order to join.

This thread is for you to give me any suggestions, comment, or criticism. I shall also create either a site, or keep a list updated on the forum of who's one the tournament each month.

I'm also open to offer a prize to the winner, but I lack the funds required and do not want to force people to pay to get entry.

Sounds like a great idea for anyone who feels like playing a few extra games on a good level. It should have some basic requirements to join such as boot ratio < 8% or the likes, possibly also a certain win ratio, say 40% 1v1 to prove that the player has grasped the basics at the very least.

If you are thinking of having the monthly AND one at a time, I doubt that will happen that frequently.

Hang, I think that will depend on the amount of players.

My first tournament is set for 128 people, which I honestly think is quite sufficient and is nearly pushing it for 1 per month.

But if I have to have a few overlap, that's just what has to happen.

Thank you for your inputs so far ^^ This first one is completely open and I had a suggestion to allow only those who win their first round or their 2nd round, then allowing only high reqs, which I quite like.

When will you create the first tournament?

I think if you set up one the first of each month, that would be good. If you could do something with say the ones that make it to the sweet sixteen get seeded into the round of 32 the next time, with the other slots open for new entrants, that would be an incentive to win (so 128 pay down to 16 and then those get matched against prior winners, two rounds of 32). Posting the overall results on a separate winners discussion board would be nice (not sure if you can restirct access to a board to keep out comments when you just want to covney information).

amerla, what you advise simply isn't possible on both counts. Posts cannot have restricted access as you describe and nor can tournaments have players added in at a later round.

The only way any of your suggestions would be possible, is by having Fizzer himself help me out with it :P

A very simple suggestion: list the month & current year in the tournament title for subsequent tournaments. That makes it easier to keep track of them, since they all would bear a unique name.

For the rest, I guess simple prerequisites for entering should do. It's nice to make it an accessible and friendly tournament for players of all levels. Also, I think 128 people is pretty much spot on in terms of size and they should all start on the 1st of every month. End date is not relevant since it's beyond your control.

Oh, I agree, this first tournament is more "unofficial" so I have not added the month and year to the tournament name. The REAL first monthly tournament will start June 1st, 2012. ^^

The Monthly Tournament will have its OFFICIAL starting day as June 1st, 2012. If you would like to get in (Provided you have a 50% W/L record), please invite me to a game. I'm going to keep this less public than I did this first tournament. I'll be putting people on my invite list until May 30th.

Here's a point that you may have already observed. You need to have an autoboot setting to avoid each tournament from getting long-term stuck. The current tourney illustrates the problem already with one of the first-round games not having started yet.

This tournament was not meant to be serious, I threw it up there for the sole purpose of getting the idea out there and announcing the start of it. I obviously skipped over some options by mistake.
