In the spirit of the Berlin Open, we're doing a small meetup in the Netherlands (Groningen). I'll host the meetup in my house, where you can sleep. We'll probably stream some of the event too. (we'll actually have a router allowing us to stream :p) The good news is, we've built a bar in our house. So we'll have enough cheap beer. If you want dinner, i can cook. So after transport, this event should be really cheap to attend. And there'll be lots of beer, as Timi wanted me to emphasize. The date of the event will be the weekend of May 4th. We need the force. If you'd like to attend, please do post so on this thread or PM me. The following people have shown interest:
I'd agree that May 4th is the best date. There is one issue though: May 5th is a national holiday in the Netherlands, so our house is throwing a party. Not sure if everyone's interested in that. Then again, we've never livestreamed a party, so that could be fun :p
I just looked it up because I couldn't believe you can have 2 consecutive weekends of holidays.
Saturday, 27 April: King’s Day (Koningsdag) Saturday, 4 May: National Remembrance Day (Dodenherdenking) [Not an official holiday] Sunday, 5 May: Liberation Day (Bevrijdingsdag)
Liberation Day was only observed every five years until 1990 when it became an annual observance, though it remains a national holiday only every five years.
Those who lost their lives during the war are also remembered in the Netherlands on 4 May, which is National Remembrance Day. It is not a public holiday. To mark the the loss of life and suffering that occurred during the occupation, a two minute silence is observed across the Netherlands at 8pm on 4 May.
On the 5 May, celebrations are more joyous to mark the freedom of the Netherlands, with parades of veterans and music festivals.
