I haven't played Warlight since last year, but got the urge to play again yesterday so started playing autogames, but feel that I haven't been making very good picks in the first few games thus far.

My most recent game in particular worried me turn 1, I wound up with a triple-pick (pick 1, 2, and 5, not 1-3), but with Intel, and wasn't sure if I liked that setup very well, though I suppose in general it actually isn't a bad situation since usually one of the biggest downsides to a intentional triple-pick (1-3) is that you have no Intel on your opponent.

Game in question is here: Curious what other people would have picked, and why. Feel free to point out mid-game mistakes as well, but in general I think it's picking that could have used improvement moreso than playstyle (other than a obvious blunder where I deployed to attack in South America and then ended the turn before expanding there).

you could've swapped the 5th and 6th picks. if he took the scan/w russ combo you'd have a counter in greenland.

Most recent game, not sure I deserved to win three turns before it ended. He was bad, very very bad, at "fighting" once he bordered me, but I think when we initially bordered each other he had the game in the bag, which I find a bit disconcerting. If he'd have played that triple pick better after turn 7 he'd have stomped me. After turn 7 I had a 25-22 income lead, but he had two bonuses both 1 territory from completion whereas I only had AA that could be finished soon. The only real advantage I feel I had at that point in time was Egypt's strategic superiority against the Middle East.

I don't feel the Egypt superiority was enough to give me the game, because even if he couldn't stop me from breaking Middle East he only really "needed" to secure Iran to protect the rest of his bonuses.

Not high enough level to make pre-req games, intend to do so once able.

Game 1:
Picks:
Antarctica
South America
Scandinavian Peninsula
West Russia
Europe
Greenland

This way if I don't have ftb I have other 2 in scand area, and therefore depending on the situation I should capture it fast or eliminate or outplay my opponent there.

turn 3, you could make two 4vs2 attacks and one 3vs2 instead of one 4vs2 and two 3vs2.
turn 4, as you said, no attack in SA.
turn 5, not sure why you attack Malaysia with so many, SEA was not possible, CA was most probable starter, not sure why you expand in SA before you checked it. So, instead of Brazil and Bolivia you should capture Colombia with everything.
Few wrong guesses later on, but the game wasn't that hard after you brake CA, your opponent made worse mistakes.

Game 2:
Don't understand your picks. Why SA+WA?
I would pick :
Scandinavian Peninsula
West Russia
South America
West Africa
East Africa
North Africa

turn 4, I would rather attack Sudan with 4vs2, and rest use in SA. This way next turn I can capture East Africa.
Also, that's when you should realise he have to be in Asia, and yet you made no attempt to get there, really big mistake.
Again opponent was not a challenge.

You are correct you pick badly. Watch some ladder games from old number ones when they were in their prime and then try to pick like them. Start with szeweningen and zaeban.
