I think I might submit a Uservoice for this, but wanted to hear some opinions.
In large games,(more than 6 players), its gets tricky to determine who is on who's team.
I would like to propose an alternate color scheme, where you could toggle back and forth, and see All of one Team as One Color.
I know you can click on the team name on the right pull-out tab, but the pink highlighting isn't very user friendly.

If all of one team was one color how would you then determine which player from any given team controlled specific territories?

this idea will solve the problem easily if it says which team the person is under the controlled by panel

You can try to make stripes in the teams' color togetter with the players' original color. even though it'll get confusing with all these colors.
but you can also try use the highlighting just like if you select a certain bonus for a couple of plots
it highlights 'purple' then, but you can try making it so each team has a different color.
or just add (T[number]) behind the names like Playerone(T1) playertwo (T1) playerthree (T2) playerfour(T2)

@Richard John's idea was to have a toggle function for the option, so that you could view team colors temporarily.
@John I don't have the link at the moment, but I believe I've seen versions of this on UV before, most notably the idea of somehow adding patterns (stripes, polka dots, maybe a plaid?) to differentiate between the teams.

id prefer shades of blue vs shades of red. or something similar for all possible team games. but that certainly wont happen.

Shades of blue vs shades of red...
The thing is, in a 2v2 or even a 4v4, it's easy enough to know who is on which team. Things like 10v10 require the occasional checking and you're never going to get 10 shades of red that are easily distinguishable.
Also, personally I don't want to be changing my colour for team games. I've played almost 400 ranked games and have never once not been yellow. For personal reasons, that's my colour. If I see an interesting looking open game that someone using yellow has already joined, I won't join.
I would assume that not everyone is as anal about this as me but I don't want to be dark blue or light red or whatever just because I'm in a team.

Why use colors? Just use patterns in conjunction with existing player colors.
One team gets vertical stripes, the other polka dots, a third horizontal stripes, a fourth diagonal stripes, a fifth checkered etc.

Well what about a dew different options,
You would always be what ever color you wanted, but, there would be multiple over lays.
The different patterns as Sharpe suggested.
A solid color for each team, you would be unable to tell the difference between the players but you could quickly assess who owns what.
Different shades of a color for each team.
Then make it customizable, what shade you see your team as, only as a member feature.
If anyone has play Europa unversalis 3, then think of the religion, political, etc overlays.
