That is assuming that California gives an amount of soldiers proportional to its percentage of its population in the US.

Well, I was going to refute the "8 guys in a pickup" theory, but every picture I can find of NC militia members... are roughly 8 guys in a pickup.

It really depends on the scenario, is california invading canada? is canada invading california or are they squaring off in Montanna?? if it is an invasion, the defender can easily fortify their territory and set up machine gun nests, trenches and traps. Canada is such a huge nation and if California were to invade i suppose they would start from the west and go east, and we see how well Nazi Germany did invading the vast expanse of Russia. While californians wouldnt have anywhere to go while canadians invade the state and could capture vital regions of the state's survival such as key roads/factories/power plantsa and would disconnect the state whereas if California were to take over a province, the provinces are so huge they would be selfsustaining for a while and the other side of canada could be producing weaponry like nuts. I've heard of California having water issues, rolling brown outs and such, their infrastructure would not be able to support a war at this magnitude i believe. Now, if they were squaring off in Montanna or such, it would depend on how advanced the military is and the technology, it doesnt matter how much men there is, but their skills and equipment. You can see this in WWII, Russia lost more men than all other countries combined, if Russia and Germany had the same amount of troops whereas Stalin couldn't throw men at Hitler, it would be a different story.

I don't see why it should be fought in Montana.

Montana doesn't have sparkling vampires with a mafia connection to Italy, so there's less geopolitics involved.

I mean we are playing out a fantasy war here...

If it is between California and Canada then they should play it out in Alaska or Washington

Technically, the California national guard would be "the militia".

Coming from a Californian, we would lose. Badly. We'd have more protesters than soldiers.
