OK, so this is only for those who actually care about origins of words and like classifying so

There are different classes of name, examples:
Western European
Slavic
Chinese
Japanese
Arabic

Western European is unique in the similar names exist throughout different languages, and this may be due to Western Europe's constant interaction

Such as Konrad, Hector, Michael, Christopher are very similar in German, English, Spanish, French...

The New World, USA and Canada and Latin America are descendants from Western Europe and thus use Western European names

I will not be talking in depth about Western European names because it is too complicated and that's not the point

This topic is what would black american names be classified as, more specifically the made-up names
Ex: Dequare, Shanaynay, Leshawn, Tyrique

These names do not fall under a language group... or do they?
These names were created by English speakers, so therefore they would be "English" names, but at the same time, these names were probably created by illiterate people, so do they hold genuine weight?
Exhibit 1: Creating words or misusing words, including mispronunciation, something common with this group, they seem very plagued with illiteracy

Or is this a clever attempt to destroy the English language?
Exhibit 2: Why would you not use traditional names, why would you invent names, filipinos often are named with English names, no excuse

Or is this an attempt to rebel against the "norm?"
Exhibit 3: If so, do you not realize how ridiculous these names sound, you are only alienating yourself

I still don't know under what language group should these names fall under, as they are made up and originate in USA
This trend does not exist in the Caribbean Islands, blacks use French, Spanish, English names

I think the origins of this trend originates from the Civil Liberty Movement, Illiteracy, "Black Empowerment," An attempt to create a new identity based on a racial group rather than culturally

NOTE: I do not mean all western European names are equally interchangeable
Example: An american mom names his son Jean Pierre
This sounds ridiculous, John Peter is the English version and that's what she should use

By western European, I mean the names are similar and should be used appropriately, I do not mean they are the same

"Dequare, Shanaynay, Leshawn, Tyrique" I have never been to the US, or met many Americans (blessing in disguise maybe?), but these names cannot be real. Even black celebrities who use stage names such as Jay-z and Lil Wayne have 'normal' real names. Who tf is called Dequare or Shanaynay? I enjoy your posts Cacao, because I think a lot of them are professional shitposting, and I respect that greatly, but I have to ask if this is real, because recently I read that a US high school has opened up that is designed to help students hide in case of a school shooting, American decadence is truly remarkable.
Sadly Europe is not far behind.
Please provide sources of people called Dequare and Shanaynay.

@Elohim: Look up "Key & Peele: East/West College Bowl" or "Key & Peele: Substitute Teacher". There is some basis in reality for unusual African-American names, especially in sports, but they're not as common as this post might lead you to think.

Also look up "Le-a Ledasha" on Snopes (a popular, fake copypasta where "Le-a" is pronounced "Ledasha" because "the dash don't be silent"- keep in mind this is probably made up but you might literally find Americans IRL recounting this story as if it happened to them or someone they know). There's some deal of exaggeration about these names which seems to play well with common racial prejudices.

I'd hold off on judgement here, tbh, and if I had strong feelings about people having different names like "Daquan" (which is fairly pronounceable in English) but not, say, named like "Nguyen", I'd ask myself why. It's one of those things where if you care a whole lot about personal or cultural decisions other people are making (with no impact on you), maybe it's time to get a hobby and try to live a bigger life.

but if you look up these names in facebook you will see there's people with these names
I'm originally from California, and did not know these names existed until I moved to the south and saw people are actually named like this

I had recepit when I made an order at a fast food place, the cashier was named Dequare
She was very fat and rude as you might imagine
As I said, this seems to be an American thing only
I would post people's facebook profiles but I don't think that's allowed
But this phenomena is very real

It is possible that people make up names to avoid the confusion of people near each other having the same name. Just theorizing.

@Knyte: I don't hold it against anyone, and I definitely don't care what people call their children, I just think it does them no favours. I think Cacao explains it fairly well with his exhibit 2 and exhibit 3 entries in his original post. I don't want to discuss the topic, was just curious.

@Cacao: "As I said, this seems to be an American thing only" I know race relations are pretty bad in the US, I have a news app on my phone where I can personalise categories of news, and one of them is literally US race relations, maybe it's an attempt at establishing a black culture.

They are made to be pronounced in English, but I wouldn't consider them English , cause you just can't make up words
