Hello,
Just a quick intro; I'm a player from Mx, I've been playing on&off for a while a now.
This question is directed towards anyone, but mainly to members. I might have a totally misconstrued concept of the whole membership ordeal, but I can't help thinking that there is a certain "status"stigma associated with obtaining your membership. In my experience, most of the members are really good players, mostly really mature when playing (usually keep calm, don't lose it when someone screws up, if there's a novice player they'll try to help instead of scolding him for joining a game that said >200 games), but I do want to underscore the fact that they are for the most part GOOD players. For example, as a non-member, when I join a game, and there is a member on one of the teams, I'll usually want to be on their team haha. Anyways, so these are my questions:
-When do you consider yourself "worthy" of acquiring a membership?
-Once you're a member, do you mostly play ladders, or do you still play in non-member games?
-Does anyone else share this opinion on members?
Thanks in advance for your input!

And you also might want to get one if youve got a teammate you enjoy playing with and want to team up with them for the 2v2 ladder.

I consider myself a solidly average player. I got the membership for pretty much one reason: I had a 6-week holiday from work, it was winter, and I really really really really hate 75% luck games. So, I parted with the $30, and now I can make games that are actually fun (for me).

I don't think you should be afraid to become a member. I don't think it's any exclusive club... as far as I can tell, it's mostly players who decided to become a member because they wanted to join the ladder, they wanted less luck, or they wanted to support Fizzer. So while the average member is probably slightly better than the average non-member, I think that is just due to the fact that, on average, they probably have played more games. There are a lot of good non-members and a lot of not-so-good members. The ladder if you join should tailor games to players that are of similar skill level.
I almost exclusively play in ladders, but I don't think that is all that common. Again, it's just preference.

I think the only members who are truly "worthy" of membership, as opposed to being someone who just really enjoys the game for the aforementioned reasons, are ones who have earned their membership by winning a free membership tourney. Zibik and Lobstrosity are two great examples I can think of.

What if you win your free membership in a bet?
But anyways, speaking of free membership, I have a 3 Round Free Membership Tournament Series open for sign up. Just check out the forum threads.

I have spent far more money on games that have kept me entertained for only a fraction of the time Warlight that has, so buying membership was really a no-brainer for me.

Zibik and Lobstrosity are two great examples I can think of. Well, you can think of not enough! Dr Typesomething won the first ever double-elimination free-membership tourney. He went undefeated and beat Heyhuiheu twice, once in semi-finals and again in the final to take the trophy.
On-Topic: I joined because I wanted to be in the ladder. I think that's why most people join. And to create large games.

If you like playing in/creating roleplaying games on this site a membership is definitely worth it. You get way more options for the settings and can invite a lot more people.

Hey one question that has not been answered, do members only play strategic games.
When I started playing WarLight I liked the savage 12v12 games on USA Big and for the first 5 months I played lots of big games including FFA. I still did play 1v1 but I was really bad I therefore liked better team games and FFA!
When I became a member and started playing on the ladder my skill level increase significantly. I now prefer playing strategic games on median sized maps such as 1v1, 2v2, 3v3.
Hope you join the member club! See you in the secret lounge, Were members chose the the destiny of.!"/$¬¤£%?%$¨^¨:*¬¤¢£¦²¬¤£&?%$/¢¤³¦¬£±±^]{~ I ev said to much there coming for me.
