Most of you have probably heard about the bushfires plaguing Australia right now. I'm going to be honest, as an Australian living in suburban Melbourne, I knew these fires were really bad, but it didn't quite hit home till I saw this this evening...

desert habitating marsupials have a higher co2 output /capita/sqft than most undeveloped hueman civilizations, net co2 output from these fires stabilized over the next 30-40 years should be zero accounting for regrowth

The more recent number is up to a billion animals affected

I would make a joke but it's a pretty heavy number. About a third of all koalas inhabiting New South Wales are estimated to have perished, with a third of their habitat destroyed. Not to mention that the animals escaping the fires die from thirst or smoke inhalation later on.

Yeah, not to mention the 20+ people dead and 1000+ homes destroyed... These have to be the worst fires since Black Saturday, and possibly worse than those.

The situation would probably be far less dire if dumbasses weren't dumbases.

Dumbasses who refuse to acknowledge that Climate Change, regardless of how severe you personally believe it to be, is still a thing regardless. This one is self explanatory.

MASSIVE Dumbasses who actually helped spread the fires with arson, because for some reason torching an entire fucking country is fun to them or some shit.

Dumbasses who think refusing to do controlled burning's somehow helps the ecosystem(This one particularly irks me, because I have personal experience with controlled burning's, and know it's benefits to an ecosystem.) At least the other dumbasses weren't pretending that they were actually helping the environment with their dumbassery.

While I partially agree with some of your statements, I think the whole politicising of the disaster by relating it to climate change is stupid. Yes, climate change is real and we need to do more about it, but to say that one party's lack of action resulted in the bushfires is totally stupid and no-one can seriously believe it, though it makes good political propaganda.
But your other point about arson is good, though the controlled burning one isn't great, because even controlled burning during the winter wouldn't do much to stop this. And controlled burning during the fire season is basically legal arson.

Nobody is saying this. The 2,000 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide that's been added to atmosphere from human activities since the industrial revolution is what made the conditions this summer especially volatile. Obviously, Australia has only contributed a small % to this number, but every country must do something to combat climate change. The Liberal Party is doing nothing, and that's why they're facing backlash and that's why they're unfit to be in power.

they have found koalas on fire.... :(

Estimates size of Australia burnt or burning - over half the size of Illinois....

at least the wildlife (plants and stuff) will regrow fast

Smoke from the wildfires is (obviously) reaching New Zealand as dense smoke and it affecting their air quality as well

I 100% agree the Liberals aren't doing enough with their climate change policy (hang on - what climate change policy?)
Personally I support them though, because I feel even more strongly about certain other social policies that Labour do worse (in my opinion) and so for me, Liberal is the lesser of the two evils.

However, some media are practically blaming the bushfires on the Liberal party, though of course not in such obvious terms.

As for the smoke, Xeno can vouch for the fact that we in Melbourne have had a reasonably thick smoke covering the last three days.

The only real enemies are those with the power to change the world and do nothing. Progress is continually stifled and demonized by the elites. Greed and self-interest transcends politics. They're worse than medieval nepotists. At least they had some sense of morals.

If you think I'm being a spooky fearmonger, just look up the shady things Amazon and other companies do to gain support on both sides of the political spectrum, just so they can get big bucks. You can't expect someone to be a non-consumer in a consumer world. We're at the mercy of people with wealth and power. From the actions of the american republican party as of late, it should be clear that they live in their world. I truly feel sorry if you haven't picked up on it yet.

I hope dutchie comes back just to make a fool of himself for laughs. We're all allies, after all.

Start a separate thread please, risky. 😉 And let me know when the while of Hong Kong is burnt to the ground, then we might have something comparable. 😉
