Hello all,

For a while now, I have wanted to see a warzone open, along the lines of:

https://www.warzone.com/Forum/284930-berlin-open-checking-interest

and

https://www.warzone.com/Forum/316019-warlight-open-20-checking-interest

Come to the United States. I am using this thread to gauge interest to see if it is a viable option (Assuming I can find a reasonably priced venue).

Where?

Somewhere in USA/Canada

When?

I am targeting mid to late summer. I will poll for a more specific date if there is enough interest (About 30 individuals).

How Much will it cost?

Unknown. Depends on venue. I want to keep direct venue cost underneath $50 per person.
Hotel Costs? $75- $200 night??? (hilton is like $150 a night).
Food Costs? $5-20 per meal???
Transport costs will be about $25 one direction from airport.
So conservative total individual cost per person may be about $300-400 excluding air/ground travel fees.

How Long?

I will plan for an extended weekend. Friday/Saturday/Sunday most likely.

Target Group

Players from North America, with ongoing streaming for global reach.

Events?

  • Teamgame tournaments/ WGL-Like Streamed Tournament
  • WZ Open VS. The World
  • "Suprise Map" Tournament
  • "Scuffed" FFA?
  • Lectures?
  • Fizzer?
  • Social Event

Event Committee

I am looking for around 2 or 3 individuals to form a small committee to plan the event and flesh out the details. Let me know by discord dm or warzone pm if you are interested. Being on discord is a requirement for this.

Roadmap

1. Check/Rouse Interest
2. Create Event Planning Committee
3. Decide on Weekend
4. Contact Venues
5. Recieve a Quotation
6. Decide on Fee and Sign on the Contract
7. Collect Minimal Financing.
8. Event
9. Reflection

If this is limited to one location, it probably won't work. I mean, the main point of playing games online rather then in person is that online you don't have to go anywhere searching for opponents, or wait for someone to play with, etc.

This has worked twice in the past. (Albiet in Berlin, not USA). This is to gauge interest to see if this can work in the USA.

I think this could work, but I don't know if having it just in New York would be viable. Maybe have several venues, likes LA, SF, NY, Seattle, Chicago, etc... they won't be as large, but if planned properly it should be able to be done.

The problem with that is... its quite a bit of planning to do so. I suppose what I can do is poll for multiple cities and see which one would be the best candidate for an open.

What about a less cost effective city? New York is notoriously expensive. I suggest somewhere in Jersey or Pennsylania might be ideal. Hell, you can visit the amish while you're there. They sell great food for really low prices.

Okay, so let's make the inquiry more general:

Who would be interested in a USA open, and what locations would they preference?

Chicago is best, though Austin would be cool :P

I'd say somewhere most cost effective and maybe more centrally located. Denver, CO? Cowboy's Austin idea sounds good to me too. I love that city.

I'm biased but Pittsburgh is cheap and equidistant from Chicago and NYC

I'm up for anywhere in the US or Canada (or the safe parts of Mexico) as long as it's on a weekend or sometime when there's already a federal holiday.

If it's in NorCal or Texas I'll take what I save on flights and get hella beer. But no restrictions on how far I'll travel to get eliminated in the first round of each tournament.

Throw me in as slightly interested. I’m not terribly far from NYC (I live in Baltimore). But I’m not sure I could do a whole weekend or not because work and $$$.
