In this game against piggy after picks i ended up with my 1,2,4. Having the ftb and knowledge of ant i could easily assume that piggy had the aussie combo + cr as counter to ftb. It was looking bad after picks as piggy could quickly complete both aussie and cr having +14 income against my +11. The options I saw were:

a) Go with a large stack towards aussie preventing him from completing ant and putting pressure on him (untill he blockades) allowing myself more options in russia

b) Go full into Ufa, blockade murmansk and try to break his bonus on a 50-50 guess.

I chose number A building a large stack towards ant and attempting to grab ufa before piggy - which I failed. At this point the game was clearly over.

My picks were poor but assuming you picked the same and got the same position as me, what would you do and how would you try to win the game?

you shouldn't go at all in Sa so early.
You should go full to berder CR without blockade west russia, bc you might have a chance to make it. After you break him, is 11v10 and piggy will waste 1 turn for make ant and just defend a place in North. in that turn you should build WR and win the match

I agree with gnuff, problem with piggy's picks is that he has much worse early expansion, not mentioning he auto-loses if he misses australia by any chance. You have to bank on your early dynamic expansion, meaning pressure russia early. I'd try on 2nd turn 3v2 in ca and a 3v2 in russia to get to cr a turn earlier. Also picks, you might consider 4th pick in indo, 5th aus. That way in case you don't get both 1/2 you will likely get either ant or indo/aus. Both cases are reasonable for early pressure around scan and if piggy foolishly plays like boston, he gets screwed immediately.

Hello

Hm... the first turn bonus was an obvious choice. And since you then have to prepare to split the two spots also going for another +3 bonus was obvious. Although dead piggy got his first 3 picks I think he probably also guessed Central America.

I have to admit that I probably wouldn't have been able to exactly guess where the counter to the first turn bonus was happening. Central Russia was the better counter and not Europe but it's difficult to tell what the opponent actually picks. However since you guessed all 3 picks correctly I don't understand your gameplay going so strong into Colombia + Argentinia + Siple. If you knew he was in Central Russia + Australia then you should have known exactly what was going on behind the fog:
- First two turns dead piggy takes Australia
- Turn 3 he takes Central Russia. Also leftovers from Australia go back to Antartica
- Turn 4 he hits Ufa strong and takes South Pole
- Turn 5 he takes Antartica not expecting a counter.

Without calculating things exactly through I think due to the fact of your first turn bonus and your unexpected Antartica Counter you could have hit Ufa strong enough to get a safe break next turn (at least with above 50% chance). Then you had 11v10 income advantage, more armies on the board and only position disadvantage if dead piggy took Ufa the turn you broke him.
