It's easy to understand that people sometimes choose that real life is more important than an online game, Dan obviously isn't the first to leave and certainly won't be the last in that regard. People leave, others take their place, it's the circle of life in a petridish.

But with some people, it just feels so much bigger and more important. Dan is and was an integral part of Warlight and Warzone, known by so many people and being extremely helpful and constructive member in this community through his userscript and from what I understand as a forum and chat moderator as well: there won't be anyone to just take his place, what he has meant for the this game cannot simply be replaced.

Normally, this should have been a bittersweet farewell, with a few tournaments and events, maybe a stream to celebrate his contributations and then wave him off into the world with an idle hope that he'd come back every now and then like so many others who just can't help checking back in every now and then.

Instead, this sudden announcement with no particular reason given, leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. What I've seen appearing in the forums during the last few days, some of the people posting in this topic and the type of messages, something is just not right with all of this. I've learned from my own work that if something is not mentioned, there's often a good reason for the omission.
I don't know Dan well enough to understand his reasons for leaving, but I can't help but feeling bitter and upset about it, up to the point that it took me two days to post this. I hope my instinct are wrong on this and all is going well for Dan. Everyone who doesn't wish the same for him, may wish to stay away from this topic and leave it to the people who actually care.

I think that you see this site as some kind of very special social site or something like that, hence why you expect a clear explanation as to why someone would desocialize from the participants of the game on this site. But this site isn't mainly for social communication like FB or twitter. And even though I haven't been active on this site for pretty long, I do remember that Dan wasn't really that active on the forums. He didn't seem that social to me, or it's just that he didn't show his socialness, because he didn't see this site that way, which is probably how most players on this site see this site. But I do understand why you feel a bitter taste. You expected more from someone who interacted so much with the site itself, by contributing and playing intensively etc.

For some, your analysis may seem as an overreach, but to others, it can seem legitimate, depending on whether they knew Dan closely.

Maybe they think of me as the guy of the past. But I've changed a lot actually. Those of them who love taste, would appreciate that I've become the father of ludeqry. Ludeqry is a beautiful art + science.

Is Karl still here playing undercover? I haven't read about him since a long time actually. I think the OT has changed quite a lot, though. I think this is partly because of the voting system, whereby people can feel discouraged to post a thread if they think that it'll just be downvoted anyways.
