So, I've had a Warlight account for nearly five months now, and played it for even longer. I discovered Warlight back in 2011 on Armorgames and now that it's nearly time to go back to school, I've noticed many things after playing many games over the summer. I have a few questions on what I have noticed:
1. Many Warlight players, I've noticed, are male. I am a male, but are there any female Warlight players? Not asking for names, or romantic purposes, as I am only 13. Speaking of age, I've also noticed that most Warlight players are either teenagers or young adults (13-30s), and haven't seen many people outside this range. Are you an outlier in terms of age? I'm not asking because I'm a stalker.
2. As I've played Warlight, I have noticed many "clans". Why are there clans? Don't answer with "Join mine and you'll see", as I will never join a clan. I'm asking for a general opinion on why they're there. Such groups have been prevalent in many online games.
3. Beginning in about one month into my account, I began to play with the same players more and more often, some of which I've played with several times before. This led me to believe that Warlight is still a rather small community, as I play several times over the course of the week, and still encounter many of the same generally friendly (although some are pains in the neck) players. I know there are hundreds of inactive players, and ones that play solely for one purpose, whether that be making posts here or making maps, etc. So how big do you think this community is, not total, but active PLAYers? I believe it may be about 2000 or something, because there are many 1000 player tournaments that take months to fill up.
Those are my questions, and I hope your opinions will stay clean, as this is my first time posting in a Warlight forum. I actually just found out that Warlight had forums. When I first played Warlight in single player mode, I thought it was going to be a very simple risk clone that showed promise, as it was based more on strategy than luck, which is the opposite of the original Risk and many of its clones. However, Warlight actually turned out to be quite complicated and deep. Though the basic gameplay itself is simple, the strategy requires lots of depthful thinking which is enhanced by many features elsewhere. I thank Fizzer for this well-rounded indie game, and I do strongly support indie games (such as Minecraft, woohoo!) as compared to games made by mega-corporations. As you can probably tell from what I just said, as well as my username, I am a socialist (not communist, they're different; we're less radical, but more than a plain liberal). Now I'm rambling, so don't pay attention to what I just said. Just pay attention to answering my questions in the paragraphs above, as I wish to hear this great community's opinions. Thanks for everything!

Well, comrade Marx;
1)There is a reason for that particular range. It's pretty much the generations that started living with the internet + online gaming, thus making it very unusual for such outliers to occur. As for the gender issue; here again, this is kind of obvious. Nevertheless, there are indeed a very few female players. Most of them are wives and play with their husbands.
2)Again, a question easily answered. Team play, the feeling of deeper community and simple communication. This is interesting because this is what human nature or behavior almost dictates.
3)I don't have a clue as for the exact number but in all honesty, there is a vast number of players out there making a game possible at any given time due to different time zones. Try not to limit yourself when it comes down to playing with people you know. Try out new stuff. This also applies to real life. The key term here is "limitless".
Have you ever visited Trier, Germany? Might be interesting for you since there is the Karl Marx house - I just came back from there actually.
Moreover, you write very well considering you are only 13 and I like the grammar and structure of your paragraphs. They are certainly better organized than in most other threads.
All the best,
Doggy

Another answer, because Idfdoggy got there first.
1.) How would you know the person's gender? I could tell you I am a girl, and you would beleive it, would you not? Therefore, it does not make technical sense to say that the majority of WL players are male. Again, "Doggy" speaks true, the majority of people i have played who told me they were female usually play with their husbands. And for female WL players, of course there are. The Impaller is rumoured to be a girl (not sure if that is true or not :S).
I'd would say the age group (as you are correct) is between 13/14 to around 30. There are many other players who are older, most likely, and again, it would be hard to obtain thsi information. As I hope most of the players do, I lie a little about myself, so that people don't end up knowing more about me than I want them to. An alias, so to speak. However, msot of what I say about myslef is true. Indeed I am 22 (choose to beleive that if you wish) and I am inside your range of player ages.
2.) As I am a member of a clan, I would like to say that making a clan is not just a small idea. [V.I.W] started with four good friends who liked to play together, and now it has progressed to the second largest clan, through a mixture of players recruiting other players, the clan being very active, and through positively enforcing a clan. Clans are made because friends would like to get involved with WL more and play with each other very often, causing the idea of a clan to be born.
Lastly 3.)Do a survey? I have no idea how many players, although many of my good friends have become inactive over the past month :( WL is a relatively small community compared to other games that are more popular. The reason for this is because WL is a relatively undiscovered game, most people stumble upon this by accident (as I did as well.)
Best of luck out on the forum! Watch out for forum trolls, they are quite dangerous :)

I would estimate around 3000-4000 players on warlight...I had 1200 on my invite list and I know I did not have near half the players in the game...There are too many people who play realtime every now and then that I don't know most of them. And I think it is good that Warlight is somewhat small...It leads to getting to know players better because you play against them alot.

When talking about warlight population does multiaccounts count because that increases the numbers highly.

1. I think it's a safe assumption that most players are males between 13 and 30. Though while I am male, I am not in your predicted age range. I'll leave it to you to speculate in which direction. :)
For questions 2 and 3, I'll leave those to people with more insights into that than me.

I have been playing about 9 months.. :)
1) I am female.. lol BUT NOT ONLY! I love pop music, anime and manga, and i'm 15. So I know I am a very small minority.. but Warlight is fun for all genders and personal hobbies, it really is a good strategy builder and.. I guess it's a fun way to do math.
2) I don't focus on clans so I don't know much.. sorry
3) I have no clue at all..
And we've played 3 games together so.. Herro! (I love checking to see if i've played games with people)

Regarding 3, the reason you might be playing such a small group of players is because you are only playing at certain times of the day, only on certain days, only a certain type of game, or only a certain type of map. There also games with prerequisites, that may make you ineligible (either because you have not played enough games or too many, and various others). I see you play mostly 3v3s and 6p FFAs.
It is also quite difficult to gague activity. I have certainly played a lot more than 2000 myself, who knows how many are active? Playing in 2 multidays counts as active, even if they spend a minute a day here on average. Whereas those who play only real-time might go a week without playing and then play ten games in a day.
Oh, and lol @ the marxist who prizes individuality so highly.

Well, better than being made by mega-corporations. Games that have DLC and expansion packs are the worst; greedy, profiteering games that leech on customers' wallets for a small addition. *Grumble, grumble, grumble*
Of course I don't completely agree with every policy and views of the far-left, which is why I'm not a radical.
