Anyone have any tips on how to beat this level?

But I can't find any more info on the level. Quicksilver says you can reach the commander's lair in 8 turns, but I must have played through this level 50 times and I don't see how. He is 8 spaces away meaning I have to advance toward him every turn, but if I take Laggala on turn 1 I don't have enough troops to continue advancing every turn. I seem to be in a much better position if I take Matale on turn 1, and then Laggala on turn 2 to get the bonus, but then it's impossible to reach the commander by turn 8.

The AI seems erratic. Even when I do the exact same moves game after game the AI puts a variable amount of troops down.

What am I missing with this level?

Correct - you have to move forward every turn ;)

one clue - have you figured out what to do with the gift card yet? ;)

(And yes - the AI used for this level has some randomness in it's play :( You can look at the level information to see what type of AI it uses. You can win reliably, however, with the correct approach!)

No I have not figured out when to use the gift card.

I take laggola turn 1, Uda-dumbara turn 2, and mahiyangana turn 3. This doesn't give me enough troops to ever get a bonus, and I'm facing down 6 troops in Bibile. I can't stop Bibile from attacking and taking over Mahiyangana on turn 4. I'm unsure of how I can approach it differently to get enough troops to take Bibile on turn 4.

How do you take Laggala on turn 1? You have 4 against 3!!!! that is the key. You give the next turn Minneriya as a gift and is enough turns to get to the boss.

I can take Laggala on turn 1 by deploying the 1 army on Minneriya, attacking Laggala from there first, and then take it from Dambulla.

another clue then:

what if .... you could get the AI to deploy armies elsewhere such that when you meet in the west you can still move forward? how is that possible? ;)

That clue was all i needed.

Turn 1: Attack with 1 from Minneriya to Laggala and 3 from Dambulla to Laggala.
Turn 2: Airlift the 2 from Kilinochchi to Laggala, Gift Minneriya, Start your attack from Laggala towards the leader....
Turn 7: Play delay card, attack the leader, win the game, get gold star

I could not get to "Ravana" (the boss) by turn 7, but did it on turn 8. I followed Dionysiosk74 method, but never killed him/her, even with 5 or 6 tires.
So, used his plan (thankyou) but gifted "Dambulla" instead. The 2 airlifted units were left in defense.
Turn 3, deploy 1 to Uda-, attack south. Leave 2 at Laggala
Turn 4, Deploy 1 to Laggala and 1 at Mahi..., attack SW
Turn 5, Deploy 2 to Laggala, attack with it N and East, 2 each. Attack West with Bibile
Turn 5, Deploy 2 to Laggala, to hold the bonus. Add 1 to Monaragala, attack NW.
Turn 6, Deploy 2 Laggala, moved some units back there too. Attack NW from Monaragala
Turn 7, Deploy all to Wellawaya, move What you can to Matale. Attack west with Wellawaya.
Turn 8, Had 6 to Deploy to Tissa..., then did the order delay?? and attacked North to boss with 13 units...

Why did I include so much detail? For those having tons of trouble, you may just want to get through the level. Briefly read the plan, if you don't want so much help. And, don't watch the video! LOL

Used Dionysiosk74's plan, but it's still not foolproof. The leader tends to stay in Tangalla so I couldn't get him on turn 7 and had to wait for turn 8. Also he sometimes puts guys in Tangalla, so I was unable to take it. Seems like the AI has to frig up and not put any units in Tangalla the entire time, even on turn 8 when you are sitting on his doorstep.

Still got my gold star. Didn't enjoy this level and won't play it again. Only cards needed to win were +1, airlift, and gift. I used order delay on turn 8, but it wasn't needed.
