In the current system, a maximum of 5 vacations are allowed; whilst this is, of course, better than none - it DOES lead to unfairness and difficulties.
For example, under the current system one person could get 50 days of vacation (using the maximum) whereas another (using the minimum lengths) could only get 5. Furthermore, if someone is away often for say, 3 days, they are at a disadvantage compared to someone who is away rarely but for a while.

So, I propose the following: instead of a maximum NUMBER of vacations, I propose a cap on the number of DAYS. This could either be the current 50 day max. or a lower limit such as 30 days.
This would mean that people who are frequently away for short times are not at a disadvantage for vacations and also, it means there will be less boots in games - something I'm sure all of us want.

Also, an option would be to have a maximum vacation that can be started (such as the 10 day max. now) so that people can't just stick it on for 50 days and annoy people by making them wait.

Finally, due to this system still meaning a limit on vacations - it means it cannot be abused as unlimited vacations could be, but it makes it better for people who use vacations fairly and correctly;and, furthermore - it rewards people for returning early.

I agree completely. Only problem with this is people would drag out games too far sometimes so I like the 30 days option.

I would still suggest a cap of 15-20 days per vacation so that someone doesn't decide to wait a whole month to make a single move. (Especally if they are losing in a few.)

Yeah, I agree that there should be a max number of days per vacation (at least without renewing it) so that people can't stretch it out; but the most important thing is to have the maximum changed from an amount of vacations to a number of days

I also agree 100%, just wanted to point out that if somebody often is away 3 days they can just play games whit 3+ days boot. At least for now ;)

Yeah, but even if they're only away a few times - it's easy to use up. And, I'd rather put on vacation just to be sure even if there's only risk of getting booted in one game.

Like, a few of times this year I've been away for a few days, didn't miss much but it was a precaution. Just seems unfair to penalise people for trying NOT to get booted as often as possible, rather than only using vacations when they KNOW they won't be back in time.

This is a must for me. As of now I can't play multi day-games without risking a boot because I have to travel often on short notice (vacs are long gone..)

Oh, as well - if I didn't say before; I think that if you come back EARLY any additional days you'd put down as your vacation should be refunded.

I'd like to add that ladder games should be set to 'vacations not honoured', and members should then not be forced to quit the ladder to go on vacation - nor be prevented from taking vacations because of the current situation.

If I am reading you correctly, then anyone who goes on vacation while in ladder games would get booted after three days, and then continue to get new games, potentially getting booted from them as well.

Being removed from the ladder to go on vacation means no new games, and vacations honored means no booting someone who is on vacation. That seems like a fine situation to me, but you seem to disagree.

Even though I know nothing about the ladder (not being a member) The Duke of Ben seems to be right, the current system for the ladder seems a lot fairer - not fair to penalise people like apex suggests.

Yeah - if I make my move in a ladder game and then go on vacation mode, it could be 6 days before I have to move again. I am in an internet-less spell, so I haven't been able to get on so often. To be able to go on vacation would have saved me from being booted in several games where I was too late by a matter of hours.
