In this game:

http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer?GameID=3393539

Canada was my 19th choice, Green didn't even pick Canada, how come he ended up getting it? And I ended up getting West US, something i didn't pick.

In addition, Egypt was my 13th choice, and again, green didn't even pick it. How come he ended up getting it, and i didn't?

In my opinion, i should have gotten Egypt and Canada, and green should have gotten 2 random territories, since he didn't pick enough territories.

ok, it says: "WarLight then gives out a territory to each player in order. Each player will get their highest picked territory that isn't already taken. If all territories that a player picked are already taken, then a random available territory is given to that player."

Thus, green should have gotten 2 random territories, and in this case, the 2 random territories are Egypt and Canada. However, since Egypt and Canada are my 13th and 19th choice, shouldn't I have priority? Because 13 and 19 should be highest picked now, since it's higher than random.

Highest pick of the person who is currently selecting. The selection order cycles through the players in turn and since it was your opponents turn and he had no selections left a random territory was selected. It then moved on to the next player and gave them their highest remaining choice.

It is entirely possible for a player to lose his 1st pick to an opponent who selected it with his 20th. Each territory award is independent of all other selections and player choices, it simply determines the highest available location remaining.

Ok, let's say the order was ABCD, then the next one is DCBA, etc... right
except at the end, C ran out of territories, so shouldn't it be like DBA, then ABD etc.. until everyone run out of picks. Then C should get some random picks?

Nope. You always get a territory in your slot, regardless of whether you have selections left or not. Sucks for you that the RNG gave him two of your picks but that's going to happen eventually.

You didnt get to your 13th pick, the last pick you got was your 7th. So egypt was free for anyone to get, so it randomly gave it to him.

Reza, you are looking at green, not pink. Wrong person.

Tagg, you got screwed by not making enough selections. Had you made a 20th pick you would have been assured one of your selections. However, since you had last pick you were left with the dregs which included the two wastelanded areas and Middle East.

So, let me get this right, say we are playing the strategic 1v1 template.

Say, person A doesn't pick anything whatsoever, and person B picks the usual 6 picks, it's still possible for person B to get his 6th pick?

That seems kinda unfair :(. Oh well, thanks Richard and fizzer for your help. I think I understand now

Under your scenario (assuming it is possible to not make selections) then it is possible for person A to get person B's 1st pick. It's unlikely (about 1 in 50... 1 in 2 they get first pick, 1 in 25 the random selection is the #1)but it is certainly possible.

I can see where you are coming from and I honestly can't think of an argument against your implementation so long as all players start with the same number of territories. It's just not the current implementation.

Seperate question: can you pick nothing on a map? I THINK i have done it before. But not sure.

It's not possible to not make any selections (Warlight will not let you commit until you pick the number of territories selected), but yes, it is possible for player B to get his 6th pick if Player A doesn't pick any.

There are up to 23 starting spots in Medium Earth. The number can be as small as 16, however, if wastelands manage to overwrite 7 bonuses. We'll assume no wastelands overwrite any bonuses, so we have 23 open.

Player A needs to go first, so that's a 1/2 chance.
Player A gets one of Player B's first 5 picks, a 5/23 chance.
Player B gets two of his top 5 choices.
Player A then must hit Player B's last two top 5 choices, getting a 2/20 chance, then a 1/19.
Player B will get his final, 6th pick.

1/2 * 5/23 * 2/20 * 1/19 = 10/17480, or 1/1748 chance. (~0.57% chance)

That should be .057%
