I think it'd be interesting if people post a ladder game they watched and comment truthfully on what they think while watching.

A game I just watched:

http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer?GameID=3363045

- "20 to Brazil turn 5? What are you smoking? You think he picked West Africa when it is that ugly of a spot? That just put you behind a few turns."
- "WTF, Boston? Grow a pair and just attack the bastard already in Scand or W China to end it!"
- "Tim transferred 1 to Scand from Russia and 1 within Scand. He did it again next turn. He did it again next turn. He did it again next turn. Hmmmmm. See any patterns?"
- "Turns 8-end: Let's have a transfer contest. I can transfer more than you can. No, I can transfer more than you can. No, see, I made more transfers that turn. Oh, but I did this turn. Indeed. But this turn I made more!"
- "Man, Boston really could have ended this on turn 9 or 10."
- "I think Tim would've won that rather easily if their territories were switched just before turn 5."

I watched that game before you posted about it, and the thing I noticed the most was their attempts to meta-game each other instead of playing their board positions. The 20 to Brazil is a perfect example there. Instead of attacking a known bonus with enough troops to seriously threaten it (or take Finland to nearly guarantee it the following turn), he tries to maintain an advantage in a place where he doesn't need to.

He did admit in the chat that he didn't think Tim had Central Russia, but that's a poor assumption to make, I think.

Why do you keep saying 'Boston' in your commentary? Only player that comes to mind is BostonPhoenix but he has no association with this match.

Richard, Gui is trying to make it known who Lightning McQueen's older account is I think. If you watch the game styles of both Boston Phoenix and Lightning McQueen and also read the chat where they both constantly complain about luck, you will realize they are the same person. There are many other reasons as well that led me to figure this out while playing him on the ladder but they are small reasons and wouldn't really carry any weight until they were mixed with all of the other reasons. I have also heard he made a few errors in Warlight chat by being signed in as Boston Phoenix and switching it to Lightning McQueen.

JSA, so you think he made a second account two months after creating his initial account, paid for two memberships three weeks apart and plays 15+ games on each account? Seems rather unlikely.

Have had zero interaction with Lightning/Simba to comment on that aspect of it.

Richard, I am 100% sure Lightning McQueen is Boston Phoenix. As unlikely as it may seem, it is true. Hard telling how many other people know it as well and could back me up. Gui of course could, as proof from earlier in the thread. And I know at least 5 other people who could also confirm it. I think most of the top players know, especially if they play much with him. I heard he was giving his older account to someone else sometime or has already. Not sure if that is true or not. I personally think he did it to earn respect. Before he bought a membership with this account, I had no idea he was that good of a player. He had joined the ladder with Boston Phoenix and lost a couple games to lower rated people by bad luck and not playing well. I think he wanted to prove to himself he was good enough to get to the top 10 of the ladder and he did that with the new account (Simba, Lightning McQueen, Atticus Finch). My speculation may be way off but I do know for a fact that Lightning McQueen is Boston.

JSA is right. I noticed it, too. The luck complaining, the play styles, he's made quite a few slip ups in chats with me before giving away that its the same guy. He denied it when I questioned him, though. :P

I was hoping to see new games and interesting/funny comments about them, not all this gossip about a player's name.

Boston is talking to me now. He is not happy. Apparently multiple players use that account, so my assumption that it was Boston was wrong.

In any case, I'd really like to see other people post games and say what they were really thinking while watching interesting or funny games. It could be fun.

I'll post a game in a second (and it is a good one!) but as his number 1 fan I'd kinda like to address the lightning mcqueen situation. There are 2 players using the acc. one of them is Boston, who I assume was keeping up with tournaments while his other self took a break. The person the acc originally belonged to I call Simba and his play is very different to Boston's, you can see it in his earlier and most recent ladder matches as opposed to Boston in the middle. Boston is good Simba (DD regents, atticus finch) is amazing, probably the best. Boston really wanted to remain anonymous and probably made that very clear to Gui. ಠ_ಠ

Turn 1: Shit, my picks backfired, I hope he'll go for antarctica first.
Turn 3: Nice, I should be ahead right now, it should be smooth sailing from now on.
Turn 4: He keeps deploying to africa... he must be in CA, otherwise why wouldn't he expand?
Turn 8: I have no idea what's happening now... He must have expanded in australia, possibly took north africa?
Turn 9: I can see in my head how nicely i'll prevent finishing australia
Turn 10: He is in SA? Not in australia? What is going on, did he take SA? Naah, most likely he expanded to east US.
Turn 12: I am such a moron...

That game was interesting when I watched it a couple days ago. Red proved it's never lost. It's funny to see how you were thinking while playing that. I wonder what Red was thinking. By the end he must have been thinking "Hahahahahahaha, the great Sze, dead! Who is questioning me about my worth in 20 A?" (Red likes saying "hahahahhahahaha.")

This is like the Warlight Valerie Plame Affair. Except the person being outed is just... a different anonymous Warlight account. And Gui plays the role of Robert Novak aka "The Prince of Darkness."

Anakin CHigurh vs Monsieur Mofo

http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer?GameID=3493692

Before watching: "These two are about equal in skill, it must be a good game."
Click to watch: "27 turns. I guess it was a good game."
Click to picks: "North vs South, each with a combo, Mofo has the advantage of distance."
Turn 5: "Mofo and the bullrush. These 1v1s could be more interesting if this weren't such a standard play that leads to deadlocks."
Turn 10: "Mofo blockades S Africa. Anakin seems to have the advantage, since he is a turn away from reaching Mofo's main bonus area."
Turns 11-13: "Why did Mofo waste his stack in Africa on neutrals? Just for card pieces? And why didn't Anakin try to break the Russia bonus, even if with just a few? That extra turn with +4 might be why he lost."
Turns 16-18: "Mofo had this lost but he kept Anakin away from W China, making it secure enough to take. A lost game won: Anakin's armies busted Russia but didn't hold or maintain a presence in or near/touching W China."

Typo Doctor, call me something else. This is third time I've seen you call me dark prince, black prince or prince of darkness. You must dream of me, hoping I am the tall, dark, handsome man you dream of, your prince charming.

Turn 1: Ok, Sze is fucked
Turn 2: Why didn't that guy attack? He had a first turn-Bonus, enough power to push sze out of brasil.
Turn 3: Brasil broken, basically gg here
Turn 10: ok, quite even now, i don't get why orange tried to take europe instead of pushing russia
Turn 16: OK, now it should be gg, orange with a large stack in ukraine
Turn 17: Scand and West Russia Broken, game over

*checks who surrendered* WTF?!

Sze is lucky his name is so well known. I think Bowdown surrendered to the name of Sze rather than to the player he was playing.

I've had times when someone surrendered to me when they shouldn't, but never when his income and armies on the board were both nearly double mine.

Agree, hit literally bowed down after psyching himself out, it's a bit sad. I had a similar thing happen in this game with Simba: http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer?GameID=3174357 check the chat, he was pissed. =D
