I was playing a game on strategic 1v1 recently when I really couldn't decide between two alternative strategies. I thought I would like to play the exact scenario again to try both. The problem is that the same exact scenario (given the random distribution of wastelands and picks) is very unlikely to happen again.
It got me thinking about settings (perhaps on the strategic 1v1 map) where there are only 6 possible starts and wastelands etc are always the same (perhaps just no wastelands). That way if the game starts exactly the same strategies would develop over time and it would be possible to make counters to your opponents preferred strategies. (Obviously they would know this and try to mix it up.)
It would take some tinkering to balance the 6 picks. HAs anyone ever tinkered with settings on 1 strategic medium to create something similar?
I call this chess like settings as in chess both players obviously start exactly the same (except move order) and over time (millenia???) strategies and counter strategies have developed.

Could be awesome. It would be outrageously hard to balance without making it symmetrical, but that would be the most interesting way to do it. Maybe similar to North vs South on big Africa?

Would you keep 16% luck? The strategy would depend heavily on risky moves like 3v2s
