First of all, big thanks to the creaters for this amazing site. However it is only 50 procent of what it could be: if you create more community-bonding-facilities, members will stay longer and more will join and stay too. Befriending, chat-window permanently visible with avi's before the name for easy recognizing, an own profile-wall etc...
It is sad to play a 5 hour realtime-game very intense, making and breaking alliances, and before you know your friend gets booted and you never see him again. He leaves and isnt even allowed to stay and watch the map. You have to put way too much energy in keeping touch. Sad sad sad
You can always mail players by clicking on their profile and clicking that "send mail" icon.
You can tell if they write you back by going either to the multi-player tab and clicking that tiny, mail-looking icon in the top right or by going to the community tab and going to "mail" the third option from the left
The players with who you've played in games are automatically in your friend list, so you can invite them for new games or stay in contact with them ;)
Also once you're in a game you're always involved with the chat, even if you've booted or surrendered. You may need to adjust your settings in the "My Games" tab to get chat notifications for "inactive" games however.
