I recently came across a thread on Reddit about unsettling theories. I found two about the Fermi paradox that kind of go hand in hand:

a) The dark forest theory: our galaxy is like a forest in every civilization is a hunter trying not to be seen, in the fear that something more advanced and dangerous will find them...

b) The scuba diving theory: imagine you are scuba diving and there are no fish anywhere, even though you know the waters should be teeming with fish. The fish are obviously staying hidden for a reason, and since you are a newcomer, they likely aren't hiding from you...

I'd love to hear any other unsettling theories you've heard :)

All it takes is a bit of reddit writing and social engineering..
