Tech issue - 30% increase taxes on the rich: 2021-01-23 18:28:29

Always thought this “felt wrong” but now documenting it.

The tech “increase taxes on the rich” is supposed to give 30% increase on territory income. I also happen to have an artifact giving 40% increase on territory income.

My base income was 36k.
When I bought the tech upgrade (30%) it went to 38k.
Adding the artifact (40%) it went to 50k.

This just doesn’t add up. I think the tech upgrade might be mistakenly coded as 3%, not 30%.

Please note that "income from territories" only makes up a small portion of your money income, most of it comes from "income from bonuses"

After re-reading the descriptions, JK_3 I think you’re right. The tech upgrade is only for the territory income (which is significantly less than bonus income).

Well .... definitely not going to prioritize that tech anymore. Thanks for confirming!

In the Sengoku level, the upgrade "taxes on corporation" gived me nothing more in the money income, and the upgrade "taxes on the rich" gived me only 3% ! I spent a lot before clicking on this territory upgrade... for nothing. And there is another bug : this upgrade doesn't run for the future bonus territories income.

Now for me it's clear : these two upgrade, it's like most of them : never again : far too expensive, for nothing. Moreover they are traps, because they don't do what they say. In the same way, the "army camp" upgrades don't give 15% but 10%... and not sure that the upgrade is permanent after every camp upgrades.

Maybe it's time for programmers to correct all the tab "upgrades".

I can't for sure say something about the other parts (other than that you may have other things like artifacts or advancements that lowered the actual percentage of additional gain: in general, if you have two increments of 15% each, your total income only goes up to 30% (15+15) not ~32% (1.15*1.15=1,3225 -> 32.25% increase); and your money income is already a combined number of territories and bonuses, so later techs will appear to give less benefit), but I'm pretty sure you misinterpreted what happened with:
And there is another bug : this upgrade doesn't run for the future bonus territories income.

Can't guarantee you this, but I'm very confident that the increment is already applied to each bonus as it is written on the map, so as soon as you complete a new bonus, you should get the extra 20%.

Example:
There is a bonus you don't have yet that grants you 1k. After you unlocked the tech, clicking on the bonus should tell you 1.2k (*) and completing it should you give you that 1.2k.

(*) the numbers on the map could be static, hence, not change after unlocking the tech, but that still should show correctly in your money balance.

And always take into account that most of the numbers in the idle game are rounded to some extend. So a low percentage increase might just not show up at all.

I just started another level and I will check what I can say about Geopolitics as soon as I have the items for the bonus income tech.

I literally thought the title says we should tax rich people and tech companies more, in real life.

So this isn't Geopolitics but Peloponnesian War but here are some real numbers:
before unlocking tech:

total money income 205.6
unclaimed bonus: 29
unclaimed territory of said bonus: 0.1

after unlocking tech:

total money income 241.6
effective increase: 17.46% (because territory income didn't get any increase)
unclaimed bonus: 34
unclaimed territory of said bonus: 0.1 (the same because I didn't unlock the territory tech yet
and you wouldn't see a difference anyway)

after claiming the territory and thus the bonus:

total money income 275.5
total expected/calculated income 275.7

So, all as expected for me, and even the numbers on the map actually change.

If you still doubt this or think that this might just not work on some map, then I'd advise to file a bug report instead of a forum post. Fizzer already recognized a bug report I just filed while I rarely see him commenting in the (idle) forum.
