Preemptive bans - banning toxic people just in case, before they break any rules, as a measure to ban them in advance, so that they don't break any rules in the future.

These are the kinds of people who may potentially spread negativity and cause problems for others, or hurt feelings.

There is a way to make forums a more friendly place, with only nice people. How do we get rid of the unwanted element?




Ostracism was used as a way of neutralizing someone thought to be a threat to the state or potential tyrant. While some instances clearly expressed popular anger at the citizen, ostracism was often used preemptively. It was practiced in Athens as a way of punishment to people harmful to the society.

Ostracism was crucially different from Athenian law at the time; there was no charge, and no defence could be mounted by the person expelled. The two stages of the procedure ran in the reverse order from that used under almost any trial system—here it is as if a jury are first asked "Do you want to find someone guilty?", and subsequently asked "Whom do you wish to accuse?".

I advocate for less censorship, as long as it’s not outright spam or hate speech I believe it should be allowed

I think a solution could be if someone is on your block list, their forum posts should be hidden from you
