The game was never called "Warlight". If I remember right the initial name "WarLight" came from Silverlight, a technology which the site is not even using.

That's correct, Norman, Microsoft Silverlight was the programming language used to initially create the game. this was before flash, itself before whatever it is now iirc.

Also it was warlight.net (still works) as opposed to warzone.com. it was much more difficult to tell people about verbally. warlight is not a word, while warzone (at least according to the court documents) is and the .com really helped too, before the app.

This has been debated endlessly, and WarLight is not only a more unique name with history in the game but it rolls off the tongue a lot better and is generally still used by a lot of players.

It's true; I have been a member (or a player anyway - not sure when I joined as a member) here for over 10 years now I believe (11 years maybe), but that's not the reason why I prefer Warlight or WarLight if that's the "proper" spelling. I think it's a really intriguing name that is quite mysterious, nonobvious, and much more appealing to the ear than "Warzone." "Warzone" sounds - well, like something a big video game maker would call an FPS or similar sort of product. :)

I still refer to it as Warlight among friends and I joined in 2017. Warzone felt too generic even before this whole Call of Duty nonsense.

In the event of the worst, how's "WarMap" sound? It gives you a better idea of what the game is about than any of the other options.

I like the name warmap, but changing is not so simple. that would require the logo to be (at least slightly) changed, the apps to be majorly changed to show warmap instead of warzone everywhere, is warmap.com available?, are there other games named warmap?, and probably countless other things I don't know about. plus, fizzers business name is warzone LLC, so there's tax information, city and state ordinances to deal with, the list goes on. he has spent a shit ton of time setting everything up under the name warzone, and changing the name is not a small thing to undertake.

I tried spreading the word by speaking to some large-ish tech and games websites and uploading it to their news queues. Unfortunately, every single one of them refused the story and ended up not posting anything about it, even though in the past week several of them had a few news stories about the activision warzone game. I figured it was quite related to that. I guess they have their reasons for not being interested.
