Because the title of King is only given to men who inherit the title directly.
Wives of a monarch can be given the ceremonial title of Queen.

He wasn't a King, just married to the Queen. The wife of the King is also called queen consort. Royal consort is not blood royalty, and like the other guy said you have to inherit the title.
