Hello, I joined this game in 2015 but I played a bit casually and almost always real time until few months ago.
I noticed that during most open tournaments at least 1 of 5 (maybe 1 of 4) games end with someone who gets booted, most of the times on turn 1. That boot rate is higher than the one of casual games out of tournaments and in my opinion happens because you do not usually know how much the tournament will last when you join it and, expecially if you win some games and then you have to wait long time to be paired with your next opponent, you just forget of a tournament started in the months before and it happens often that when the new game starts you do not check the game at all.
Extreme example: https://www.warzone.com/MultiPlayer?GameID=27071878

I think that people should be able at least not to get booted like that, being able to retire from a tournament when you are not interested anymore and maybe letting the last defeated player advance if he rejoins the tournament.

Yep i agree. There should be a retire button by which we automatically surrender the next game we are suppose to play rather than get booted.

Rejoining shouldn't be an option, but i do agree that there should be a "surrender from tournament" button, where you automatically surrender all remaining games from that tournament. (Or you just auto-lose them and the games never even get made).

Yes, a very good suggestion.

Could be a members only feature too.

The example you provided is a single-elimination tournament, meaning that all they would have had to do is surrender any game and they're out of the tournament.

Given that this player reached the championship game of a coin tournament, I find it difficult to believe that they simply "lost interest" in it and would have clicked a button to leave the tournament right before the championship game. I suspect it's more likely they intended to play.

The tournament was for our clan members only (Kratt hosts quite a lot of these) and he actually said us that he was going to be busy for some time, so he probably would have retired from all the tournaments if he had the chance.

Not all tournaments are single elimination tho. Regardless of the example that was linked, tournaments should have a retire button. It should auto surrender every remaining game, regardless of it being 1 game (single elimination) or 19 (round robin).

Wow, Fizzer uses strawman arguments.

I completely agree with this.

Think it would be cool if the retire button would be for everyone while the rejoin button for members only. That's only an idea of course.

Dear Fizzer, you know much better than us that many tournaments last forever. Let me find an example

https://www.warzone.com/MultiPlayer/Tournament?ID=6238

I am playing this tournament since 2013/08/30.

Every 200 days there is a new game. This is crazy. It was fun for the first 5 years.. not anymore.

So funny . . . for anyone that didn't read the chat from that tournament Skap posted, let me paste it here for your enjoyment (my favourite part is bolditaled):

E Masterpierround: This tournament has been going on for 4 years and 2 months. My team finally finished our 2nd game
E Masterpierround: Idk about the rest of you, but I'm only 19, so we might win this tournament based purely on lifespan
Skapis9999: I am 20. So I fight till the end
Skapis9999: 6 and a half years later...
Przemoo: ye it's terrible. Is it possible to finish this tournament earlier? ^^
{CZ-SK} simon.vlach001: We are also two active. Im 20 so i guess I could win this in this logic too :-)
{CZ-SK} simon.vlach001: or i will teach my children in the future
Lord Raimonds of Baltic: this is a mess, I am never joining such tournaments again lmaoo
Skapis9999: hey guys. Another game has just started
Saber: I gave up Warlight years ago and now I am back.
Saber: And this tournament is still going on.
Saber: I'm speechless.
Saber: anyone still here?

Skapis9999: me
Bamboo (CZ-SK): me and my teammate Simon.vlach001
E Masterpierround: I just came back to this game for the first time in years
E Masterpierround: good to see the old standby is still running
Skapis9999: hey
Saber: yay
{CZ-SK} simon.vlach001: This is multi-generation game

Seconding Ercole's point about TSFH; this clan indeed has a lot of tournaments (and that's a good thing).

Tournaments take ages and sometimes we need breaks from the game. I chained 4-5 vacations together last time (ending yesterday) because I didn't want to just pile up boots or log in every few days to surrender each new game in these tournaments, so I waited over a month until I would have the time to just log in regularly again and surrender those games as they get created.

This has been a recurring pain point for me since at least 2015. It also makes it hard to join tournaments because you often have to know that you'll be regularly playing the game a month or two from now. It would be nice to not have to make that prediction and to just surrender all future games by clicking a button once you've lost interest in the tournament or can no longer guarantee your availability. I'm fine with it eating into my win rate or even inflating my boot rate; I just wish it were somehow possible to quit a tournament.

Right now I have not joined new multi days since April but I am going to be booted from 5 or 6 tournaments (some with double elimination, maybe my new turn is going to be on september) because I am going on holidays and I really dislike vacations when they use it against me (or vacations are not allowed in the tournaments) plus I don't think it would be really likely those are going to last enough even if I use them. It would have been much better for me if there was a retire button, anyway bye everyone :)

(or vacations are not allowed in the tournaments)

We dont need a retire from tourney button if vaccations fuctioned in any functional way , but sadly they dont....

If a tourney allows vacations, it will probably take forever, with people potentially taking vacations after each other. However, having just a single game that doesnt honour vacations is enough to pretty much kill the entire system. (But that is topic for another thread).
