Slavery was never about race
Not because of race. Slavery was/ is a way how to maintain a successful civilization successful. In the world, there are that many resources. If you want to have a high standard of living, you need to drain them from others. Ancient civilization drained war captives, we drain Africa, India, and Southeast Asia. Oh, and also animals.
Racism was just one of the ways how to maintain a stable slavery system. Not the cause, but I wouldn't say slavery was never about it.

Some materials for jewelry and electronics are gained through slavery. You just walk into a village in a country far enough from the civilized world, take manpower, make them work in your mines, then sell their products to companies, whose customers don't care about the origin of parts of the product they are buying. If someone dies, just repeat the raid.

Not talking about pseudo-slavery, where you abuse the market to get employees who are willing to work in inhuman conditions for a minimal salary. Why do you think so many things are manufactured in China/ India?
