It's more likely that they need some food aid. They'll talk for a bit then get back to being North Korea. It's similar to what used to happen under Lee Myung-bak and Kim Jong-il.

Apart from Kim Jong-un being possibly ill.

But then again the party will find a new man before it turns to the South. The Workers' Party WPK would stand to lose everything if re-unification happened and as they are the entrenched elite expect them to resist re-unification even if Kim Jong-un is out of the picture.

And then there is China.

China is very unlikely to want to see a virtual American satellite start sharing it's border.

aid to north korea is bare jokes, why would you relieve the pressure on that country ... starve them into submission since that is what it will probably take.

Lot's of South Koreans have family in North Korea. They are not as keen on starving innocent people who's only crime was to be unlucky enough to have an awful government.

And anyway starving them doesn't work the WPK continue to eat well and the people eat what they can even grass.

They aren't yet. It's just what I think they will do based on when it has happened before.

And it might not make a difference to the regime. But refusing aid is still not a solid argument for killing millions of people from malnutrition.

Especially when so many Koreans share family ties with those on the other side of the DMZ. People in South Korea see North Koreans and themselves as Koreans they view the partition of the country as an artificial thing.

I think China will be against re-unification and would block any attempt from the South to absorb the North peacefully, democratically or militarily.

But I think America will be against the North doing the same.

Wait. I think I'm conversing with someone who bases his knowledge of Korea on a video game >.<
