In this thread i will post a riddle or a problem for you to be solved. Once you found the solution, I will give you a new one.


RIDDLE NO.1

Lets start with something easy

Eeyore is creating a game and asking the players how many seats he will have to leave open for them. The three players are deciding to make fun of him . "Who is going to play?" ask Eeyore.

EmercencyPsy says: "Exactly two of us will play"
[WM]Szeweningen says: "Just I will play"
[WM]Gnuffone says: "Sze lying :)"

Eeyore is thinking. If exactly one of them is lying, how many open seats he has to reserve for them?

Okay we have the first solution.

Sze and Gnuff cant both be telling the truth, therefore Psy can not be lying. 2 is the correct answer.


RIDDLE NO.2

Three experrts of logic come together in Mythonians Game Lobby. Mythonian is asking them: "Are you all going to play?"
Salah ad Din answers: "I dont know"
next Luxis*apex says: "No clue"
And finally Qi responds: "Yes"

How many seats will Mythonian have to reserve for them? 3? At least 2? Or cant he even know at all?

I was not serious when I said "yes," so nobody knows.

explanation:

the question was: "Are you all going to play?"

If the player says he doesn't know, then he knows he WILL play, but doesn't know if the others will, cause otherwise he would reply "no" instead.
Qi was the last to reply, so he had full information on other players' intentions, so he was able to answer "yes"

We have the solution to the second riddle. Mushishi was totally right.
Saladin and Luxis wont to play but they cant know about the others, so they would say that they dont know. If any of them wouldnt want to play they would just say no, because the others wouldnt matter anymore. Qi also wants to play and hasnt heard a no, so he can easily say "yes"

RIDDLE NO.3

Three happily married guys are abducted by a gang of vicious sexy female lingerie models.
They are sentenced to a night of rape, but they are still given a chance.
Their topless leader stands before them and says:
"One of you is wearing a white cap, the rest is wearing a black cap. If the one wearing the white cap is coming to me, you are free to go. But you are not allowed to talk to each other."
They are all standing in a line and can only see the caps before them, not their own.

Can they avoid their horrible fate? Will they manage to be truthful to the women they love? Do they even have a chance? Or does it all depend who has been given what cap?

If the guy at the back has the white cap on, he will know instantly as he can see two black caps. If the second guy has it on, he knows the guy in front of him doesn't, and can deduce that the guy at the back hasn't either, or he would have stepped forward. If the guy in the front has it on, he will know he is the one wearing it, as neither of the the other two have come forward. So they're going to be ok!

If I would have put [WM]Anonymous as one of the married guys, they would have been doomed, no matter what.

icvotria - not necessarily. myhand did not say that they know how many are in line, so the front guy is not able to estimate how long should he wait.

i would say: there was no rule saying they have to remain in line.. so what they see at the moment is not important. they may take a look around and communicate with gestures since only talking was forbidden :)

sze - i only get the reference to the Q4 equation, which was written on margin of a book as far as i remember.. not sure if it was sierpinski, banach, or whoever else who drafted the equation in the first place.. and as far as i recall there was quite a competition for the first mathematician to prove it..

aand the first few attempts on the proof were a few volumes large...

RIDDLE NO.4

Ivoctria wants to join a clan in warlight.
By accident he happens to be in the same game with Aranka*Relite, [WM]Anonymous and Qi. Qi tells them that one of them always lies and the other always speaks the truth, but he doesnt tell Ivoctria who is who. They both agreed before hand to take Ivoctria in , if he decides after having asked only one question.

Now Ivoctria wants to join the best clan, but he has only one question to find out which it is.
Can he do it?

just ask one of them what's the better clan.

yes he can..

a) if the person always lies, ivoctria can ask about an axiom like "is water wet?".

b) If that was not a good enough answer, then ask Aranka "which of you would [WM]Anonymous say is the liar?" and pick the other one.

sorry. correct the context of the second question since i misread the riddle :)

ask Aranka "which clan would [WM]Anonymous say is the best"

(of course it doesnt matter who you ask - just the concept of asking one about another's answer is the key)
