hey, how do you make the borders so they don't overlap other than moving 1 node at a time? I am using Inkscape.

I'm not sure if this guy bother to actually read. I've tried his method on Inkspace and it works successfully.

Thanks Techpriest :). It works on all vector programs this is not a step by step guide it is just a process by which u can get clean separation. I don't know if i wasn't clear enough in explaining it or people are just to lazy to read :). But making a map is not a fast and easy thing, it takes time, planning and lots of work.

I'll give you an easy step for Inkspace!

1. New Document in Inkspace!

2. Draw big polygons of your map you're drawing!

3. Draw a line to separate the polygon into territories!

4. Click the line and the polygon and press Ctrl+/ or Path>Difference

5. Finished work.

6a. That ugly overlap though.

6b. Border overlap each other? Go to File>Inkspace Preferences

6c. Now go to Steps and click on Inset/Offsets and set the value to 0.5!

7. Click on all of the territories and Ctrl+Shift+9!

8. Border now overlap less and attempts to touch other.

9. Now you have perfect touching border but be careful to not use that magic Ctrl+Shift+9 too much. Otherwise, the territories are going to look overdosed.

10. Glory to Warlight!

Thanks Incaman. I just read your instructions and you said -0.5, so I'm gonna try now

Every time i write -0,5 then Inkscape automatically puts 0,0000. This is irritating.

-0.5 should logically work...But look like i can't put negative value in Inkscape

OK

This is the thing i just downloaded inkscape and tried the technique. I had no problems at all.

Let me repeat the steps to make sure u got everything right

1. Make a circle
2. Draw a path (draw bezier curves and straight lines or CTRL + F6) that cuts trough the circle (leave the path open, don't close it)
3. Select the circle and the path
4. Go to Path/Division or CTRL + /
5. Now the circle is cut in 2 pieces
6. Go to FIle/Inkscape Preferences then find Steps and change Inset/Outset by to 0.5
7. Now select both pieces of the circle
8. Go to Path/Inset or CTRL + {

and it's done. Just to mention one thing INSET moves the border inside for the set amount OUTSET moves it outside. The reason u set the inset to 0.5 px is because the border is 1 px wide so when u inset both borders by 0.5 u get the right distance. (they touch each other but don't overlap).

You could set it to 0.4, 0.35, 0.3 for your preference taste..

Great tutorial!
And a good input with the territory cut up by going for the points of other lines and not the middle region. Will definetly mind that in my map making in the future :)

It worked! Thanks Incaman!

Looks like what I only needed to do is to put 'Inset'. Probably, 'Outset' was automatically put so it overlapped.

Here's an alternative way to do it in Inkscape: http://warlight.net/Forum/Thread?ThreadID=10806
