I made this picture using 50 different colours. None of them look confusingly close to each other... Fizzer, would it even be possible to raise the player count to 50?
Meh, who needs Portugal, Luxembourg, Mauretania, West Africa, Morroco, Niger, Mali, Algeria, Tunisia, Chad, Sudan, Yemen, Oman, Croatia, Slovenia, Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, Armenia, Nepal, Bangladesh and Myanmar ( Burma ) anyway? ( Taiwan, Hong Kong or Macau too if you're about that. I won't mention Moldova because screw Moldova )
I digress, seems like a reasonable option. While more players would be awesome, (I'm not a tech expert ) I'm pretty sure more players would take more turn processing or would just result in more spamming of games that will never be filled which would take up server space. Though I'm sure as WarLight picks up more and more momentum with gamers of any type, higher player limits will be allowed.
It could make for a good Membership exclusive! And if it ended in spam games that never fill, I'm sure Fizzer could make it so games above 40P could only be set on multi-day!
Thing is, the similar colors are easy to tell apart when close together but not when they are across the map surrounding by different colors. Rearrange it so some of those blues are scattered into small territories with colored borders and then assess how easily identified they are.
Never mind the fact that the game uses a black background, not white.
As it is now, the 40 colors can be very difficult to isolate let alone adding 10 more.
People could adjust and change the other player's colours so they're not so scattered. And if you still get confused between two players, you could select all on them and view all their land.
I wouldn't mind spending the extra seconds and mousclicks to find whos who if it meant more players imo
That's a LOT of work, changing ~20 colors manually. Also, does the color remain for the rest of the game? I had thought it would revert to normal on another device or potentially if the browser were re-opened.
Again, doing select-all constantly is a PITA much like changing colors.
Holding Ctrl and clicking one of the usernames on the little right scroll thing is like suuuuuper easy...? And most games have fog so you may never have to change a persons colour...
But even with fog, Fizzer could put a little warning that pops up before joining 50P games that also links you to the wiki guidline I said before! For all the lazy players.
Except that on the mobile app you can't even change a person's color manually. I'd like to know how many people even play 40 player games now (I bet not many). I am playing in one now and we've already had a few boots and turns take a week (it is an rp game). When you factor in vacations for that many players the game grinds to a halt. Adding another 10 players will only make that worse.
Plenty of people play 40 player games, especially in multi-day tab, one is almost full right now actually. And if you don't want the game to be slow, make the boot time short and no vacations, done. If you don't want a bunch of people booted and gone, turn on AI's!
With the phone thing, you're right. Perhaps Fizzer could allow players to change colours of others on mobile? If not, they'll still receive the pop-up warning telling them the possible difficulties and it'll be their choice to play or not.
EDIT: I still think 50P games would be an awesome exclusive for members imo
I tried to buy membership but I can't and Fizzer doesn't know why. For him, the page he links looks much different than for me...? Although I'm kind of glad it didn't work and I didn't buy it cause now I'm having second thoughts about it... There's nothing members can do that a high level player can't which matters to me!
For the same reasons Chris mentioned, I would never join such a large game, however this is one of those things where adding the functionality will not hurt anyone who doesn't want to use it: neither make not join those games. However I'm quite sure some people will find a benefit in it.
The colours, as has been mentioned already have their own issues, and adding ten more would not, I wouldn't expect, serve to exacerbate them.
