Boston, you going to be able to stay sober with Chara shelved for 4-6 weeks, Mayo done for the year and Chandler gone for a month?

I makes me sad even reading this thread. I'm gonna go buy a pack and get wasted tonight.

I had my first blemish. But well see how the rest of the month goes.

There's a lot to not like in Boston. But I haven't been in Boston in two years

Boston sports will turn it around.

Pats haven't been a true contender for years. But will be a playoff team.

Bruins may not win the east. All I care about is playoff time.

We all have slip ups. It's the process that matters.

Don't beat yourself up guys. This is something you are doing for yourself. It's alright to slip.

What you are trying to take away from this is a better understanding of yourself and a better grip on vices.

I've been really looking at myself and trying to make myself a better man at the same time.

This is just personal development.

even though i'm not much of a drinker, I join you, mate :)

for this to be the same process, i'll join you, but in my case - it'll be snacks and junk food for me to refrain from.

Since I've been legally allowed to drink, I've gone 6 years without touching the stuff.

There are also the years before that as well, but I don't break the law so they're not worth mentioning.

30 days is nothing.

Were going to push through till the end of November. Make it 30 days.

Cheery dog. That's absolutely lovely for you. Perhaps you should post in a different thread that may be more fitted to your interests.

A 30 day break from drinking or smoking for some is a rather significant thing. I don't think it needs to or should be belittled.

100% agree, Boston. This is not the place to disparage people who are trying to do something good for themselves. I know lots of people for whom not drinking for a year would not be a hardship at all, and plenty of other people for whom a week would be difficult. That has nothing to with their respective willpower, but rather their habits and circumstances. Habits are hard to break even when they aren't compounded by an addictive substance.

I wish much support to all of you.

Still going! I'm never going to smoke again, but I'll end my sobriety at the end of October, it's part and parcel of my life and trade I'm afraid to say.

I'll check in on Friday for a self - congratulatory past on the back.

Well, very nearly reached the end of my sober month. I was meant to kick snacky food too, and have a really healthy month, to hopefully build a decent platform to move forward, but my diet's been the worst this month for a long, long while! So, mixed success really!

At the start of the month, I really didn't think I'd go a whole month sober, so I'm pleased for that, at least!

Despite my better judgement, I will try this. I have stopped smoking a few days ago. I am not stopping drinking, I am simply doing less of it. I find when I drink, I smoke. I'm really only interested in quitting smoking though. Baby steps.

I used to smoke only when I drank in the states. I hated the taste of cigarettes sober.

I picked up the habit in any real sense last year. I wa stressed at starting a new chapter in my life. I was thrilled but stressed.

When I went to the outback for the time I was there I brought a pouch, Taylor made are far too expensive in nz and aus. It was nice having a smoke and I found the flavor much better.

It got worse when I went to Adelaide. I found the absolute best smoke shop. Guy would have his different blends of tobacco you would mix. I used to do a harsh virginia and whiskey.

I've stopped at certain times. But recently as my life seemed to fall apart i turned to it again. I am not pleased with myself.

It's not a good habit. I hope you all who try to give it up are successful.

Where was all the " don't do drugs! " " don't bully each other! " " don't be silly, protect your willy! " When I was a kid? I used to smoke, but I dropped it since it was fking up my life in every aspect. I don't really drink heavily, but a good rum now or then doesn't grind my gears.
