Have noticed this tendency from the AI on games with lots of players that it seems to pick next to another player of same team screwing his expansion plan. Is this behavior random or planned? Since AIs only become AIs after boot it's quite hard for players to wait and see the AI picking decisions, but AI usually has entire info on team mates picks, why doesn't it use that info properly? Something like checking if the bonus area he is picking is not conflicting with a team mate would already be quite useful. :S
I Looked up AI in the wiki but there is no info on picks decisions. http://wiki.warlight.net/index.php/AI

ps, are you talking about a player who gets booted while picking ?
Playing with direct boot would help, instead of auto, so you can un-commit and boot your team-mate, though it gives the other team the chance to be jerks.

powerneg: i considered that possibility, but on teams of 5, 7, 10 people, in multiday games most of them wont be online waiting for the AI boot time to take advantage of seeing the AI's picks. And on realtime games, it's very likely you would get booted yourself.

I guess you mean auto-boot by "AI boot time" ?
turn it off, have one guy stall the turn by not committing untill the team is ready.
with bigger teams you 're more likely to have a jerk in the other team though and could end up with an additional booted player.

AI is crap anyhow, just use high prerequisites or build a decent invite-list.
