I was just reminded that it is indeed Halloween.

It's not celebrated in New Zealand as far I can tell. It was lightly in Adelaide.

I thought it's roots were Mexican. It is actually a pagan day. Who knew.

Our holidays confuse me greatly. They have all been overtaken by consumerism anyway. Christmas sales start on Thanksgiving now ( which is a holiday that we celebrate dinner with the indians, just before we evicted them from most of the country)

I must agree. Holidays are just consumerism nowadays. Though some, like easter and three kings day have biblical roots. I'd say Islam is staying far away from becoming such a thing ; I've never heard of a Ramadan sale.

My hand I thought Halloween was inspired by the Mexican day of the dead.

It appears that mexicos day of the dead was inspired by the Aztecs.

It makes sense that similar cultures would celebrate similar things.

I don't know if the dates have any real significance and if they do how the ended up being at the same time if year would be interesting to know.
