#51. Pangea Ultima
http://warlight.net/Map?ID=16170 - By Blortis. With a total of 14 votes. A quote from Ninjanic:
Nice version of a Pangea Map. I love the mountains and just the whole map looks neat. The bonuses are fair and the connections around the map are great. This map brings about fun gameplay for 2-4 player FFA's.
Math wolf:
There are several good maps this week, but no great ones. Pangea Ultima is the only map that scores well on the three main criteria that I judge by: strategic value, aesthetics/look/feel and concept/originality. It is a solid strategic map, decent for 1v1 and 2v2 with some nice chokepoints. It looks nice and feels fresh and the Pangea concept, while not special, is more original than just another earth map. Only remark is that the connections between territories that lay beyond connecting territories, are sometimes confusing. I do think they increase the strategic options though.
Ranek:
Pangea Ultima is very neat. a solid work. The mountain separated battleground leads to several strategic options. Which makes the map a great choice for strategic 1vs1 games. The map theme hasn't been used before, which brings refreshing variety. I really like the pointed out bonus colours. Only malus is the brightness of the map colours in total.
2. Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire

This map looks great and is remarkable detailed and clean for such a large map. It teaches a nice history lesson as well with some interesting scenario's. Some of those may be unfair though. That's immediately my main concern with this map, it is not very balanced. Many of the bonuses need some tweaking in my opinion. The bonuses are generally very small for many territories, so consequently only the cities are valuable. The large cities as separate small maps are a nice touch, but they are overpowered and easy to defend due to the single entrance to most of them. This is probably a great map for diplomacy, but often the bonuses may need some tweaking which could be very time consuming due to the large amount of them.
Ranek:
Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire is very well done and a massive effort of time. Unfortunately the bonus system turns out to be a downer. huge areas are awarded with tiny bonuses as one-territory-cities give one army each. starting positions along the coastline within the towns (which are connected with eachother) are the best choice to progressively increase your unit amount per turn. This fact makes this map a pure diplo map. Further Im still unsure about the seperated city maps that have only one entrance on the main map. Without doubt it is a great map, but maybe not for everyone and aslong as there are felt like 1000 other europe map I dont want to give this one too much credit.
3. European Borders
http://warlight.net/Map?ID=5602 - By Major Risk. With a total of 6 votes. A quote from Math wolf:
This is a great strategic map for larger teams that looks pleasing at first sight. It was used for the large team games of the Nation Cup II and I have good memories about the strategic options in those games. When you look closer however, there is a lot wrong with the aesthetics. The borders are very loosely and uncarefully drawn, often overlapping and sometimes missing. It feels like this was done quickly and without care. Finally, it is yet another Europe map, so not very original or special.
Honourable mentions: Hunger games, Baltic Sea, Hexagonal diplomacy map.
Week 6 nominations begin!
