Why does no-one ever speak in ladder games? The majority of ladder games only have two messages, both saying gg at the end. Not even good luck at the beginning? Why is this? Do people feel superstitious and think they will lose if they wish the other good luck? Because every time I say it people wish me good luck back, but hardly anyone has sent the first message in one of my ladder games :/

Good observation, I've never really though about that. I never made conversation when I was in the ladder, and I think it was because ladder games take a lot of time (at least they do for me) and I don't feel like making conversation besides trying to get my turns in.

We know people are going to read them.

I always read piggy's chat to learn some nugget of gold that would make me the best player this site has ever seen :)

What I mostly find, though, is mediocre advice wrapped in arrogance and excessive self-promotion :(

I chat to people I know, and a few others actually. I'm fairly chatty! :)

Tigger's right on who reads them, pretty much anybody who looks at the game, so basically very good players and players who are wanting to be top players someday.

And I chat with people as much as I do in regular games, if I know the person, I will always chat a lot, if I don't, then I won't say anything other than good game, or very well played, or I hate this luck, or I played very bad.

I don't talk much to most people, same as JSA. If I see a friend we chat a bit :)
