@Nono

Agree! Interesting quite unexpected serious technical-like answers thread.

@MathWolf

I enjoyed your take exploring the possibilities of WWIII and Knyte's question/your answer to it about the discrepancies in GDP and other life quality indicators. Thanks!

I'd like to ask something but probably I won't be wzoning for months and there aren't enough meetings rn so better not to add to the queue.

@Farah

I don't understand much but your thesis sounds innovative? congrats!

Man I wish I had your wizardry level to understand college calculus, programing or at least use common sense and count armies well in wz. 7w7

and @I am Groot

Math mentioned he doesn't have religious beliefs but I also wonder if he knows/likes or agrees with some aspects of it. Even in an atheist epistemiology the validity of his ethics can be discussed,

I read him long time ago, don't remember much of the principles and axioms but his concept being, we as part of God/Nature of was freeing and empowering.

Can you describe the relationship between your amount of games, your amount of meetings and your response time to our questions? ;)

I could, until I tried answering this question.
First try my computer froze, losing all my progress. Second time shortly after, my computer froze again, luckily without that much progress lost.
Then I got ill, so I didn't find the time.
Third try I started on another computer, and someone else closed the browser while my post was almost finished.
Fourth try the computer restarted after an update while I was halfway.
Then I got ill again and just lost the motivation to try again.
Then I posted the placeholder twelve days ago, after which I was very busy at work for nearly two weeks.

So the actual updated relations is:
Expected Time to post the next answer = T0/(number of boring meetings+1) +A*(how many nearby deadlines I have at work) + B*(how busy I am at home - 1) + C*(how ill I am) + D*(how often my computer freezes/crashes/restarted)
It is independent of the number of games that I'm in actually.
In this, T0 is the time it'd take me to answer if I don't have boring meetings at work and all else is OK (see below). T0 is therefore probably a day or two.
A is not large, but when I have a lot of deadlines, it will result in not being able to answer while at work and only while at home. Therefore count another day or say per deadline, so A is approximately 1.
B is similar, not too large, but it will shift the moment to answer to home rather than home. If "how busy" is a percentage with 100% (or 1) meaning no free time at all and 0% (or 0) meaning I got nothing to do, then B is probably somewhere around 5. However, this has limited impact as the percentage is almost always between 90% and 100% for months now, so even when I got some free time, that only reduces the time to answer with half a day. For scaling purposes, I'd rescale how busy I am at work, with the minus 1 (or minus 100%) so T, discussed earlier, is interpretable.
C is large. If I'm ill, and I have been a few times recently, it easily adds a week, sometimes more, sometimes less, but on average, a week. So C is 7 or so.
D is not too large. My computer had lots of issues, so the "how often part" is easily in to 20 to 100 range or so. Given that I lost it three times due to this reason, and it added a few days every time because I got discouraged, I'd say D is 2 or 3 or so.

So final formula:
E[T] = 2/(MB+1) + DL + 5*(HB-1) + 7*TI + 2.5*CF
With T = time to answer (in days), MB = boring meetings (count), DL=deadlines (count), HB=home busy (percentage), TI=times ill (count), CF=computer freezing (count)

When are you finally signing up Statisticians for CL16?

:-(

Sadly, we were not ready. It was pretty clear though, few people were still active and those who did reply mostly preferred to skip a season. I was wondering if we should still try to recruit people to play with us, but ultimately I never got around to taking any initiative on that either.
I played pretty bad last season myself as well, with life being too busy the main reason that I wasn't able to carry us in the team games.
I had wished for it to go on, but it was always more of a struggle to find people to play for us than the actual games, so it didn't come as a surprise.

Good luck organising!

Where have you been on 12th of January 2011

Interestingly, I didn't have to wonder why specifically that day, as I remember January 11, 2011 being my first day on Warlight, the then name of Warzone.

I checked my agenda but it was completely empty, so it seems that it is too long ago, and I still used another agenda at that time.

So while I have to guess the answer, it is relatively easy.
I was working as a teaching assistant and that days was a weekday during the examination period.
We are talking long before Covid-19 and homeworking becoming a thing, so I was almost certainly at work.
Given how busy it used to get during examination period and my task distribution at that time, I can confidently say that I was either supervising or correcting an exam. With the date being early in the examination period, supervising is quite likely.

After hours, I most likely went home, living in the same city and not that far from university. I cannot recall nor have any information on doing anything special that day. It is possible, 10-20% chance or so that I went somewhere else still. That information is lost in the mists of time though, maybe archaeologists in a distant future will find any indications of this.

Also, please explain how you manage warzone with life. I currently find myself checking the app or website every few hours for no reason. It occupies too much of my time, so im trying to leave WZ for a little while again =.

What do your typical days look like? Are there any routines or habits you have that you stick to on a daily basis? What do you usually do in the morning, afternoon and evening? How do you spend your free time? Are there any activities that you do to relax and unwind? Are there any hobbies or interests that you like to pursue? How has your daily life changed since the pandemic began? What has been the biggest challenge or adjustment you've had to make? How has the change impacted your mental health? What do you think of the current state of your daily life? Is there anything you would like to change or improve?

That's... a lot...
I'll answer somewhat vaguely to protect my privacy and those of the people most close to me but as truthfully as possible.

What do your typical days look like?

Get up, usually too early for my liking; Have breakfast, usually as soon as possible after waking up; Prepare to leave for work / open my computer (when working from home) / plan the day (when I don't have to work); Go through a hectic day (most days, work or not) but never skip lunch; Get home / close my computer; Spend some time around the house getting things in order; Usually finally have some quiet time after 8PM; Stay up way too late because I only got time to relax after 8PM and there is too much to do; Go to bed too late; repeat cycle.

Are there any routines or habits you have that you stick to on a daily basis?

I try to not skip meals if I can help it. Some other routines are forced on me on a situational basis (e.g. work, family) so I'm mostly sticking to them out of necessity.

What do you usually do in the morning, afternoon and evening?

Morning: Try to find the energy to stay awake, have breakfast, leave for work
Afternoon: Usually my most productive period when at work, so 5 days out of 7 working
Evening: First half usually being very busy taking care of things at home, second half usually relaxing

How do you spend your free time?

For the longest time: Warzone. Every once in a while: D&D. A lot of random things on the internet like watching the news, following sports and playing simple free games. If I have a lot of time and it's possible: go running, preferably longer distances. Sometimes just sitting / laying around a bit just thinking, letting my mind wander. Whatever I do, I just can't stop thinking. Sometimes things that are not PG13 that I will not disclose on this website. I'm human like all of you.

Are there any activities that you do to relax and unwind?

Hard to say. There are some things that I like to do, see above under free time. However, I often don't have the time for them, so really seeking them would be frustrating rather than relaxing. If I have the time and I'm not ill (quite a problem lately), having a 10k or 20k run is nice. I usually have to squeeze in a 5k at most but even for that I often can't make time anymore.

Are there any hobbies or interests that you like to pursue?

There are a lot, but again time is an issue. I don't think about it often as it's rather frustrating to think about what you can't do. There's only so much time in a life.

How has your daily life changed since the pandemic began?

Enormously. I had a few major life changes (new job, bought a house, ...) coincide with the beginning and the end of the pandemic, coincidence rather than caused by it. Getting settled in a new routine that suddenly included almost permanent homework in a place that was still quite unfamiliar and not fully in order was quite something. Meanwhile, so more changes took place, leading to even more changes. It's hard to compare the before and after really because so much else took place. The Covid-19 pandemic obviously had a big impact on some of the practicalities but was never the cause of the major changes.

What has been the biggest challenge or adjustment you've had to make?

[redacted] - private

How has the change impacted your mental health?

I love working from home! I love how I can just do other things during boring meetings now because they are online. I love how in my field and at my (very international) institute the step towards much more online meetings has really allowed partners and colleagues from abroad to take on bigger roles and feel more connected.
So while I'm much more stressed these days simply because there is so much going on at the same time in my life, the pandemic itself was not a major factor in that, rather all other changes taking place coinciding with it.
I think my mental health is in some ways better than before, thanks to the changes caused by the pandemic, but it's definitely not all well. The post-pandemic health impact has been horrible, I've been ill constantly the last 6 months and that has had major impact on my mental health as well. Being ill is hard when you got a lot going on.

What do you think of the current state of your daily life?

Way too busy, otherwise quite fine.

Is there anything you would like to change or improve?

A less stressful environment both at work and at home would be great. Neither is going to happen.
