You're confusing this with Mega Ascension, where the efficacy of your artifacts deteriorates over time, 1% per day, and each time you Mega Ascend, you get +25% artifact health you can apply to your artifacts in increments of 1%. When an artifact gets to 0%, it downgrades to a single artifact of the next level down (Insane->Leg, etc). Downgrade takes 50% of the time as the Upgrade process took.
What if you could have negative artifacts, which gives the player a penalty while playing a level. But then gives a bigger reward.
Did you just reinvent the super ascension?
