I can't remember when I started playing Warzone (Warlight, really), but I think it might have been in 2009. In any event, I sometimes get nostalgic for some of the older maps, so I decided to make a list of some of my favorites. This is not exhaustive, but just my attempt to celebrate some good memories. Feel free to add your own favorites that are half a decade or more old.

(Grrr...stupid copy paste didn't add the links right. Oh well, they're still easy to find!)

Bloomridge is a 10 year old map that I used to enjoy and play a lot during warlight days but I haven't seen it played much last 2 years:

Rush Time was the first time I heard the little known name Lionheart, and I knew then that this dude had it.

Before I even moved to here (somewhere between 2011 and 2012) from single player Kongregate I liked playing against the AIs on Africa https://www.warzone.com/Map/634-Africa.
I used to play 3v3s on The Big World Map https://www.warzone.com/Map/5801-Big-World-Map.

After a while I preferred smaller maps and non-default settings.

Slightly off-topic but Nathen are you the same one who left map reviews? Someone mentioned you many years ago and nobody knew you.

Nathan is an underrated Warzone celebrity.
Been trying to get them nominated for the Warzone awards for years, but haven't managed so far.

Lol. I just lurk and play only single player stuff. And review maps. I took a stab at making a couple of maps a few years ago, but I don't have the artistic ability or the creativity for map mechanics that the great makers have.

And review maps.

If you look at all the maps that have been published since 2020 (so almost three years), most of them struggle to reach fifty ratings. Most will have three or four actual reviews, and most of those will be one sentence.

So someone like you, who consistently plays and rates new maps and then leaves actual constructive criticism is very valuable to mapmakers, I think.
But I don't want to make you uncomfortable by fanboying!

On-topic: the maps that made me stay in Warzone were definitely zxctycxz' maps (already mentioned) and the other classic historical maps (https://www.warzone.com/SinglePlayer?PreviewMap=9427 or https://www.warzone.com/SinglePlayer?PreviewMap=24843).
I also remember a lot of good custom scenario games on https://www.warzone.com/SinglePlayer?PreviewMap=21431

The new maps just don't have the same feeling as the old ones, even though they're not bad. I cant explain it. When a site gets as old as this one and you play it for as long, nostalgic sentiment takes away your ability to be objective. It could be that the art of simplicity has been lost.

That's fair, but even then (especially then) it's important these new maps receive enough ratings and reviews.
With more ratings, the map score generally averages down. If a map has only ten ratings it's easy for it to score in the high 4 out of 5. A map with a thousand ratings can never reach that.

Fourteen of the fifteen maps with the best average rating are less than three years old.
These are supposed to be the fifteen best maps on the site, but instead they're rated so high because they have so few ratings. Some less than thirty.

These are not bad maps of course, but their rating is much higher than it would be if they had more ratings.

So if you feel old maps had an indescribable advantage over new maps or if the art of simplicity has been lost - all the more important to keep rating new maps!
(Maybe you already do but I'll take every opportunity to preach about the importance of rating maps)
