Sorry, I didn't read the entire thread, so may just be ignorant here...

I've been using https://imgur.com/a/OTDDS1L

Is this different from what is posted here?

The link on your post are screen shots of completed levels while link this thread is about screen shots of new levels which have been fog busted. Just open one of them then you can see the difference. The obvious one is we can see the army cost of territories.

The main difference is to see the army numbers that are required for each territory.

Whereas the existing old maps from muli allowed you to plan a way from market to market to hosp to hosp - which is amazing already -, the new unfogged maps allow you to calculate the cheapest route to each location that you want to go to. Furthermore, you see all cache locations which was not possible at muli's maps at all.

I updated the links in the level data website to use un-fogged versions of the map:

https://pkmx.github.io/wzi-levels/index.html

Meantime I also checked the quality of various maps:

1. Europe 1066 AD is really low resolution and not stitched so it needs to be re-done.

2. Siege of Feldmere is also relatively low resolution, but still legible if you look close enough.

3. I think most maps starting from Orbis begin to suffer from readability issue where territories and texts are cramped together. It is especially bad on later maps like Australia, Netherlands and China.
As most of the maps with large amount of territories have not been done yet, people who are going to take on those slots should also add “zoomed-in” images for problematic areas like the Hardened Scandinavia map by geforce.

4. It would be nice for maps with both regular and hardened versions to label the map name in the image itself so people don't confuse them.

5. There is still no map for thirty years war, not even a fogged one.

Thx PkmX for updating the links!!!

My long-term plan is to have all maps in great quality but obviously I have to do some prioritization here:

1) add important maps where there is no unfogged version yet (CCC, geo, breaking green, fort harbor, etc)
2) add not so important (just because I always skip them) maps where there is no unfogged version yet (trisk, hard trisk, garga, US)
3) super ascension maps
4) maps which already have an unfogged version but in low res

tldr: i tried, but what on earth?

how was I supposed to screenshot such high res? does everyone have some ridiculously powerful screenshot tool i don't?

what did I do wrong?

I don't know the technical stuff okay? im a casual wzi player how am i supposed to know all that rubbish
so was I supposed to take 20 billion screenshots and squish then together or what? or was I just supposed to have a thousand dollar ultra 8k HD screen?

I genuinely thought yall would use some editing tool to help make it high res

I tried but considering the rubbish that happened I'm not gonna try again ig this is ridiculous I really tried to contribute but never mind (unless yall can clarify enough that I'm convinced it wasn't my fault? even thought I tlikely is for whatever reason due to some ridiculously technical thing or somethung)

I dont think it was meant as a personal criticism to you or your technical abilities/possibilities, nor did anyone want to offend you :) Higher resolution just increases readability and thus the utility of the unfogged maps.

I guess you did use a smartphone/tablet for the screenshots? I wouldn't be able to do it on mine in a good resolution..
So i used a 1440p Monitor, chose a zoom-level that was good enough for the numbers to not overlap like crazy, but at the same time tried to not zoom in too far to minimize work... Then stitched it together manually in paint (very oldschool and propably more work than with the tool that someone wrote and posted here in this thread(?))

PS: As for my part, i used your screenshots once, when i did 1066ad.. (after i stitched the two screenshots together).... I could post the stiched version if anyone wants (?), but it's still low res

and eu1066 my screenshot is still useful if you want a quick loading time and just want to cache jump a bit I suppose

Since the question came here a few times, let me describe how I do the unfogged maps.

1) use browser (in my case Firefox, but I dont think it matters)
2) zoom in as much as the game allows, so that there is the least possible overlap of army numbers from neighboring territories and the lines are clearest
3) make a screenshot of what you currently see (I use the build-in windows snipper), pay attention that there is some nasty shadow effect at the lower border, so avoid it
4) save it and remember where the lower part ends and determine some nice stitching helpers (territory army numbers often work best)
5) usually I start top left and go down, then do the 2nd, 3rd, etc. column
6) in the end, you have lots of tiny pictures with lots of overlaps
7) finally, I stitch them manually using gimp (a free tool usable under Win, Mac, Linux), using the overlap to align the parts correctly

Rather be generous with overlaps (even if that increases the number of parts to stitch together). Having one piece which is hard to align easily costs you more time than stitching an additional full nice row.

Keep the map open und untouched until you finally stitched all parts together. Often enough I observed that I left some tiny hole in the map where I needed an additional patch screenshot.
