If I'm currently working on an Idle Map and I use a skip level option, will that discontinue my current map and start a new map?

No, but if you want to play the new level, you'll have to abord the other

It makes the most sense to use SL when you just finished a level, but are still on it

You'll get a widget asking if you want to start the newly unlocked level.

Go ahead and say that you don't want to, and you'll keep playing the current level.
