Yeah, I always felt like this was going to be the case for me as well, so I made my decision early and decided I will focus on normal WZC games. I think that will lead to decreased ladder traffic. Ladders are now a bit similar to CW, more of an activity competition than before and therefore less skill-based. If that is the point, then it works. But Fizzer said it's supposed to be the peak of strategic gameplay too...? Quite contradictory imo.

So far, I completed 6 games in seasonal ladder and 1 in 1v1 ladder, no boot wins/losses yet. Still, the boot times are far too short for me, I had to leave seasonal ladder because of that. Also, I do ministalling same as otto, which is quite the opposite of what Fizzer wanted to achieve with shorter boot times... 3 days of guaranteed boot would be optimal for me, tho 2 days would also be acceptable.

I got booted, couldn't believe it. I've never been booted from a ladder game before. Guess I wasn't paying attention.

I haven't started micro-stalling myself yet but it had crossed my mind

But really it's more 'time management' than 'stalling' so that the dead time (time between start of next turn and the time you actually start looking at the game again, which is dependent on when your opponent commits his move) is predictable

So delaying your own move helps normalize dead time to something predictable

I suppose worst case scenario, you make a move in a ladder game immediately, now your opponent has 24h to play with to advance the game and start your dead time

Reminds me a game I played once when I always played at the same time every day (7pm-10pm) due to my work schedule, the game had low regular time and lots of banked time, so my opponent observed that my move times fell within a small range, and so he timed his moves (11pm-2am) to be after my game playing time range so I would just miss his move, which would maximize my dead time and induce maximum draw down on my banked time (somewhere between 12-23 hrs per day); I caught on to what he was doing and adjusted my game time, but then he just re-adjusted his time again and added randomness to it so I couldn't predict it anymore, and in the end, he played more often so he was able to maintain high banked time while mine went down consistently

I got 1 win by boot that I would have probably won anyway, and haven't been booted so far. And stallers only being able to stall for 1d/turn is actually nice

Damn, that sounds wild. I never thought of playing with the opponent in that fashion, lol. I guess this is also something I personally want to avoid, and dislike when boot time has any kind of strategic relevance, which I feel like it has in this new ladder system (although it also did before, but that was due to the faulty rating system encouraging stalling as optimal play, and not the boot timer itself like now)

that opponent is horrible. exploiting boot times and schedules is disgusting and evil.

And, it shouldn't happen ESPECIALLY on ladder. But it might, considering that there are some crazy ppl that want to exploit this

Now now, you join games or ladders knowing the timeframe you need to commit in. If you can't do that, there's a boot timer designed to show you that. Someone trying to exploit the boot timer may sound like a twat, but it was you that signed up for a game with those time constraints.
