Hello!

Every week we vote on 5 maps, and the map with the most votes becomes the map of the week for the following week.

Go here to vote: https://www.WarLight.net/MapOfTheWeek/View?Week=1

You can use this thread to discuss the current vote. Tell us why you voted the way you did!

I voted for Isthmus. Obviously ROR and Westeros are the most popular but everyone has played those maps. Isthmus is a fun map that is rarely seen.

The "Map of the Week" is a nice feature. It should show the diversity of warlight-maps.
Thank you, Apollo for the idea, thank you Fizzer for realizing it.

I really liked the quotes on Apollos threats. I think it could be a bit difficult to find and nominate some commentators every week, but maybe it's possible to integrate(?)

My vote: Rise of Rome by Incaman
One of the most popular Maps ever. Made by the Master of mapmaking.

Rise of Rome ~ Well made map that doesn't seem random. Isthmus feels...lacking
Edit:Changed to Avatar the Last Airbender-is well made

Where is the link to the vote for map of the week other then in this forum post? Does it have its own button in the menu bar somewhere?

Considering I'm not that active anymore maybe this shouldn't concern me, but I do visit from time to time so I had to replay.

Fizzer,

"Map of the Week" was an idea where mapmakers could give insight and opinion to other mapmakers about their maps. The whole point was to have reviews, so that existing or future mapmakers could have experienced advice in what to keep or avoid in future endeavors.

You just blatantly hijacked the idea without even consulting the forming members and made it a mere shadow of itself. Your public voting system without even writing an review or the need to play the map is just pointless. It's open to manipulation, it's in no way informative and we already have the map review system for that.

You took away all the good ideas and characteristics of the thread and turned it into a public scam.

Shame on you Fizzer.

I have to agree with Incaman here, reviews and tests are essential! You did tell me you were making it and I did message the judging panel. However I was expecting more from this, somehow. But then how can reviews be implemented in? We didn't even get one mention lol, what a waste of my time. Just to be "hijacked" and not even improved!

There should be an option to review and play also, by the side of the voting option, at least. You should have contacted the judges and me about how to do it best.

I agree with the point, that this thread is somehow pointless, in fact we already have the rating system, which Incaman correctly recognized.
But I disagree with your point that fizzer should have dispute this feature with someone else, first. Especially with you Apollo or the judges. Fizzer is free to displease the entire community, or shut down the site or disappoint some expectation, due to warlight, when he is in the mood to do so.^^
Anyhow, as long as this whole thing seems to be something totally different, we could simply continue to create the 'map of the week' thread.

Every map have it's own map page, (https://www.warlight.net/Map/73-Europe) where everyone who have played it can post comments. Why not make something similar for Map of the week, comments by users (or only mapmakers/members) that we can vote yes/no on? Then display the highest voted comments at the end.

I voted for the "3 Planets" map because I just hate the "Rise of Rome" map and I haven't played in the other maps yet. Plus, the games I played on the planets map were all fun! :-)

Something we really need is separate pages for a list of maps made by the same map maker. It would accessible by their profiles and each map made by them. The page would be filled with all maps, perhaps also statistics etc.

Would be useful to have that when you create a game too^^
For now, If I wanna see all maps by a player, I go to the map page, set the per page to "all" and then Ctrl+F their username ;)

All maps by player would be useful for everyone, we will put it on the development list. The list is long so expect a delay. We have a few features lined up for the Map Display program already.

3 Planets - visually applealing, a decent amount of territories.

Just out of curiosity, is there an achievement for winning a map of the week?

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery right? I'm glad I was invited to take part in Apollo's thread. Apollo, thanks for getting the ball rolling on this.

Open voting is subject to manipulation but we can still give our opinions on these maps if we want and it will still reach the mapmakers.

To me one of the coolest things about the old thread was that it might raise awareness of great but under played maps and I think we still have that here.

Apollo - I think this can probably be integrated into your current system anyway... there's no reason why you couldn't collate the views of your previous panels on the various maps up for vote on a week by week basis, and then publish them in a single post just as you were before, either in these threads, or a new one. This could be done pro- or retroactively: Either "panel's commentary about this weeks electable maps" or "Review of this weeks map of the week: Rise of Rome" (for instance)

It is right to say that this new map of the week system does not have as much value as your previous set up, but only if you take it as standalone. If the two were to be used in sync, then value would be added to both.

Now all we need is an auto-game of the winning map that would be up for a week, to help it get some play and popularity!
