What if the Cold War never ended?

If Gorbachev's Reforms never took place then it wouldn't lead to the Dissolution of the Soviet Union

Here are the Possibilities?

1.The Soviet Union would close itself from the Outside World and be one of the most Isolated Countries on the Planet
2.Soviet Russia would open up to the West and end up very much like China is today

that would be quite amuzing to listen to foreigners talking about russian politics if it wasn't so sad.
first of all, gorby was quite an ordinary product of soviet staff-breeding. it was reagan who made the perestroyka. gorby just had not so much of choice. the rest is simply faces. they politicians specialize on drama.

anyway, the range of possibilities is much wider than only 2. the most probable movement, as i see it, would be not one of yours. it would be the same old disintegration of the empire which stroke the british after the second and the austrians after the 1st ww. circumstances in russia were quite ripe for it. i mean russia, not the soviet union. the soviet union really lost the big and quite autonomous nations, but russia still holds a huge potential for further melting, as it still includes a lage number of nations of great cultural and religious diversity.

in short, my opinion is that the 21 century is not a favourable time for huge empires, except probably the united world empire, which is a demand if the humankind wishes to e[plore the solar system. i only want this world empire to be humanistic and tolerant. autocracy is effective and appeals to some for it meets the inner human need of equality. but there is no equality in the nature. some are stronger, some are smarter. so the system "u get what u are after" is, finally, much more nice to people than the hyper-effective stalinist hell.

All this American spew about how it was Raegan that effectively took down the USSR. Gorbachev was simply a bad choice that the Comittee picked (and we all know how bad their choices are, Stalin being prime, and Lenin warning against about Stalin becoming leader). Raegan did not hold any position in Sovet politics. You're better than that.

Assuming Andropov was still alive and ruling in 1991, I think Russia would have been stuck in the glories of the Brezhnev times. Tensions would become relaxed, and, though it's hard to predict, I think it would be an even more glorious Brezhnev era, with the .сс becoming trending and popular. An online Sovet encylopaedia, an online Sovet influence internet, that would be interesting.

in short, my opinion is that the 21 century is not a favourable time for huge empires, except probably the united world empire

I disagree, I think the pesky United World Empire is detrimental to the interests of Belarus and that the United Asian Empire would kill it before it hurt anybody seriously. But maybe the United Galactic Empire would be involved as well?

so the system "u get what u are after" is, finally, much more nice to people than the hyper-effective stalinist hell.

There are four portrayals and systems.
Capitalism bad: You stay where you were born socioeconomically, which means poor.
Capitalism good: You get to work your way up.
Communsim bad: You stay where you were born socioeconomically, which means poor.
Communism good: You stay where you are born socioeconomically, which means rich.

Three examples of each (keep in mind, only economically)

Capatlism bad: United States, Japan, Brazil
Capatilism good: Ukraine (ironically), Aghanistan (ironic.), Kazakhstan
Communism bad: None currently
Communism good: North Korea, Laos, Cuba

Sovet Union I think would become more Socialist, and eventually end up with a Yugoslavia-like governance.

So a country where the majority of people are starving is good?

North Korea!

North Korea, where they shoot you in the head for "being pro-west"!
And most of that was owning a Ford!
North Korea, where a man drank some beer in the 30-day mourning period for Kim Jong-Il and was hit with a mortar round. Intentionally!
North Korea, where most people starve and people consider South Korea better!
North Korea, where most can't own a car (not even one of those tiny city-cars)!
North Korea, where if you say anything against the government you get shot!

North Korea is not any"good" communism. Nobody makes more than $20,000, i can assure. Not rich. Maybe in relativity, they're all rich. But in entire world relativity, north Korea cannot into wealth.

That is quite an interesting question, but I suppose the question is rather 'what if the soviet union never fell' rather than 'what if the cold war never ended' as it is almost certain that the soviet union and USA would have broken down the barriers between each other, ending the cold war, but not the soviet state.
