These threads never get much traction :(
Anyhow, I will then take the opportunity to hop in with a little program and a list I made regarding the possible pick combinations for 1v1 games and an arbitrary amount of picks. I made it a few weeks ago as I analyzed a game from 2 mates and wanted a better understanding to which degree their picks were viable. I vaguely remember that someone might have made something similar before but I couldn't find it on the forums.
Here is a list of all possible pick outcomes for 1 to 7 picks:
https://github.com/Norman1/WarLight-pick-combinations. If you want to check even more picks, you need to run the code yourself.
The pick combinations explode with more picks involved but there is still value in looking at them for higher pick counts if you know what you are searching for. The competitively played template with the most picks is French Brawl with 6 picks, so let's give some examples how it can help:
- Let's say you got your picks 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 12. You can then look up that combination and the line [1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 12] (first)" tells you that you must have moved first during the picking stage. So you know the cycle already.
- When thinking about where to place pick 12, then the only way for you to get pick 12 is by having moved first during the picking stage. Also your opponent must have your picks 10 and 11 in that case. So you can use that information to help you place your pick 12.
