Are there any tools I could use - I tried taking a screenshot and putting into a online png to svg converter with not so great results.
And of course other than drawing it myself?

Excellent that you started off with mailing the creator!
Other then that, there is unfortunately little you can do to get the SVG.
As you have already noticed, picture to svg results in such low quality that you cant really use it.

So I'm afraid redrawing is the only option you have left.

I could try inspecting the HTML of the map but no guarantees.
